Grounding Meditation

I am posting this here, though it is not strictly to do with medication. Medi-cation and med-itation stem from the same root. One is something that you take that is medicinal, the other is something that you do. If this is not the proper Forum, please let me know.

I practice meditation daily, and find it helps to keep me calmer and more centered throughout the day. There is absolutely no religious or spiritual connotation to this form of meditation, it is simply a grounding exercise.

Get in a comfortable position, whether this is sitting in a chair or lying down. Once you are comfortable, simply notice how your right hand feels. Focus gently on your hand until you feel it tingling. You don’t have to try to do anything, simply notice how your right hand feels. To keep you focussed in the moment, you can try shifting your awareness from one finger to the next until each tingles in turn. If you find this too challenging, focussing simply on your hand is just fine.

Take a few deep breaths, and allow your attention to settle into your hand in a deeper and deeper sense. This is simply helping you to ground and Center yourself, nothing more.

Your mind will wander off, you’ll start thinking about yesterday, or what’s for dinner. This is quite natural. Each time you find yourself doing that, just simply bring your attention back to your right hand until you feel it tingling again. It’s very simple, and very easy to do

If you do this a couple of times a day, even five or 10 minutes at a time, you should begin to find a difference within six weeks. It is quite easy and even comforting to do the exercise, and the results are accumulative. Just think of it as taking your vitamins. Physical Sensations are the most direct way to stay in touch with what is real. The sensation is immediate, and calming

If you’re curious enough to try it, let me know what you find.

Cheers

It is called body scan where you meditate on what you feel in all different parts of your body. I think it’s really good. Like a way to become more aware of your being Ness.

I went to a mindfulness course once.

The other thing I like to do in terms of mindfulness (I think it’s similar to meditation)

Is I like to take myself out of my body.

Observe myself how I’m feeling and it helps me to realise

That something about how I’m thinking is not OK eg too stressed so I tell myself something like

Relax girl.

Or look at you is someone really doing telepathy on you? N then it becomes a bit clearer that no there is only a delusion.

I have got to 90 percent belief or maybe even higher that the delusion is just a delusion. But that remaining 10 percent is still like a real feeling.

Thanks Raelyn. It is a very powerful tool to have in your toolbox of coping strategies.

I like your description of it, and can appreciate what you mean by seeing things from a slightly better vantage point. It is quite helpful that way, and yes I do practice it all through the day as merely being mindful of my Sensations. It’s like the saying, it’s not what you do but how you do it

I highly recommend it. I do go through periods where I get lazy, and forget about it all together. But in the last six to eight weeks I have been doing it daily, and noticed quite a remarkable difference.

A variation that I like on this exercise, is to feel the soles of your feet. I find this incredibly relaxing

Thanks again!! It’s very cool that someone is familiar.

I feel like I should point out, this is not meant as a replacement or substitute for medication. It’s an add-on
