Good exercise apps?

Does anyone have a good app or apps they can recommend for isometric exercises and also stretching or flexibility? Free is nice, but cheap is also good. I learned on Sunday that everything is 2x the work in a drysuit. While I am in much better shape now than in June, I am not in good enough shape yet for a river run in December. I need to drop the hammer now if I am to do what I want safely in eight weeks.

Strava app is good

Its free plus it has charged to. As per features

It looks to duplicate functionality I already have for free (my OM System Tough TG-7 camera has fantastic GPS logging built-in). It also seems to be oriented towards high impact aerobic activities that I cannot do.

I just checked you did 22 kms ? Thats crazy do you warm up before you head out for so long

By the way the app is also like a social platform

I don’t need to warm up to paddle. Staying warm is actually the issue. LOL.

That’s actually a reason for me to avoid it.

It tracks and compair previous rides and gives badges too.

I was interested but for more specific readings it is charged.

You can link your watch too

You can do this for free on Google Earth using KMZ files. No badges, though.

I don’t wear my watch. Anything not necessary is not brought. It’s a toy, it’s not critical.

Idk about apps but if you’re looking for a good YouTube channel for learning about fitness and body building in general I recommend “coach Greg”

Thanks for your brilliant insight, as usual. Got any other useless advice?

I am not looking for a YouTube channel. I’m looking for an app that can help me build, schedule, and track workouts.

Playing around with ChatGPT right now. It is surprisingly helpful.

d00d. I explained I need to increase stamina for paddle boarding, which means upper body, chiefly. You told me walk.

THINK ABOUT IT.

So here is what ChatGPT gave me after I fed it my goals, current fitness level, health conditions, and available equipment to use:

Day 1 & Day 4 – Upper Body & Core Strength (Resistance Bands + Bodyweight)

  1. Warm-up:
  • 5-10 minutes of walking on the walking pad or light dynamic stretches.

  • Plank (knees or full) – Hold for 30 seconds
  1. Core Circuit:
  • Russian Twists – 10 reps per side
  • Bird-Dog – 10 reps per side
  • Glute Bridge – 10-12 reps
  1. Cooldown:
  • Upper body stretches (focus on shoulders, chest, and back).

Day 2 & Day 5 – Stamina & Flexibility (VR Cardio + Stretching)

  1. VR Cardio:
  • 30 minutes of Supernatural, Beat Saber, Synth Riders, or OH SHAPE at a moderate intensity.
  1. Flexibility & Mobility:
  • Standing Forward Fold – Hold for 20-30 seconds
  • Warrior II Pose – Hold for 20-30 seconds per side
  • Seated Forward Bend – Hold for 20-30 seconds
  • Downward Dog – Hold for 30 seconds
  1. Breathing Practice:
  • 5 minutes of Diaphragmatic Breathing for relaxation.

Day 3 & Day 6 – Lower Body & Core Strength (Step + Resistance Bands + Bodyweight)

  1. Warm-up:
  • 5-10 minutes of walking or dynamic leg stretches.
  1. Lower Body Circuit (Repeat 3 times, 1-minute rest between rounds):
  • Step-ups (on aerobics step) – 10-12 reps per leg
  • Bodyweight Squats – 10-12 reps
  • Resistance Band Lateral Leg Raises – 10 reps per side
  • Calf Raises (on step) – 12-15 reps
  1. Core and Stability Circuit:
  • Side Plank (knees or full) – Hold for 20-30 seconds per side
  • Dead Bug – 10 reps per side
  • Single-leg Balance – Hold for 20-30 seconds per side
  1. Cooldown:
  • Lower body stretches (hamstrings, quads, calves).

Day 7 – Active Rest or Light Activity

  • Optional: Light walking on the trail or VR game for 30-40 minutes at a casual pace.
  • Focus on gentle stretching or mobility work for recovery.

This might sound stupid but I saw a guy on YT recommending using the Wii Fit for helping with exercise

Pretty sure they won’t be expensive these days

Might be worth checking to see if it will do what you need

I have one, but it doesn’t compare to what you can do with a VR headset now.
