So as most of you might remember, I can’t take meds due to the fact that they give me horrible side effects. I’ve kept myself in good mental health with diet and exercise, but lately I’ve wanted to try some techniques to help relax as well. I’m not flexible so I never thought yoga was for me, but for a couple months I’ve been taking a beginners yoga class and it’s really helped calm me down a lot. The environment is super laid back and the poses are easy but effective. I’m really happy I got into this. Does anyone else do yoga or Pilates? Does it help your mental condition?
I do dynamic meditation early in the morning…!!!
so far i couldn’t continue in the past due to stuff like insomnia …!!!
i started it again from yesterday…and …it (yoga) certainly benifit normal people along Sz people…
it has help me with certain level of motivation and anhedonia and a lot of other physical and mental benefits…
but dont expect cure out of it…I take my anti_ps regularly…!!!
That’s good that it helps you. It definitely helps me keep my head clear
I was going to beginner’s yoga for a while. Hope to try to get to a class tonight and tomorrow morning. I feel so good immediately after but then absolutely horrible about 2 hours later. Just mentally and emotionally exhausted. My therapist says it has something to do with fluids, I need to drink a lot of water before and afterwards. I did one mat pilates class, I liked it. It was pretty challenging as I’m out of shape. The hip exercises were the toughest.
I agree about the fluids thing. I used to think those people who drank a gallon of water a day were crazy but I try to drink at least half a gallon a day now and I’ve been feeling much better after yoga and going to the gym since I started drinking more water. Hopefully you make it to the classes
yes of course it will help U…there a lot of evidence that yoga helps sz people too…!!
if u can try it and continue see it in long run…U definitely get benefited out of it…!!!
u can talk about it to ur therapist or health counselor… i mean to say get a professional help for doing yoga…!!!
Well, be careful on the water intake, as too much can be bad. I was shocked to find that out.
I do Pilates and it helps me to get stronger.
Oh yeah some lady like actually died from drinking too much water
IN the USMC recruit training I was in we went through water torture where we were forced to keep drinking water until we puked.
I was 23 at the time, but these 18 19 year old guys were puking up their dinner chow every night from it. It really wasn’t a fun time and we didn’t learn anything from it.
But I drink over 80 oz water a day.
Coffee and soda doesn’t count neither juice. I reccomend about 80 oz for a sedentary guy like me but if you work out there’s just no limit. Just don’t water torture yourself lol.
I don’t drink a whole lot of coffee and I hate Soda lol so that’s good
I drink coffee and sometimes beer, so I play catchup at once by having a huge jar of ice water and will it about three times throughout the time I’m on my feet and awake. Anyhow, USMC really wasn’t fun, and you deal with the shittiest equipment. Ah well, you know I never told the va about the water torture they did on us.
I used to make sure I drank two glasses of water for every glass of alcohol I drank but I can’t drink right now so I don’t have to worry about hangovers lol
I did transcendental meditation for while at a school. During that period I was functioning at my highest. Had a grade point average over 3.5. Then I started drinking again and quit meditating, and everything fell apart.
The drill instructors knew I was a former paratrooper-(which I consider more hardcore than a common leg marine-however marines have paratroopers too). They targeted me to drill MCMAP on me which was pretty much torture it was called (muscle hardening). Pretty much a drill instructor kicked me in a pressure point for about 15 minutes. Then at the rifle range one of the drill intructors got me to go to the scuttlebutt (water fountain). He made me drink about 14 quarts over a 15 to 20 minute period. Poking my belly asking me (you gonna puke mother fucker? You gonna puke?). NEver puked.
Paratroopers have to jump out of planes and helicopters with a parachute on to get into combat. Your chute makes you fall so fast that if you don’t fall correct you’ll break both of your legs. It’s a short drop and the chute makes you fall fast so you don’t get shot in the sky.
It’s about 18 ft per second with a backpack, two parachutes, ammo and weapon and night vision goggles.
Have you thought about getting back into meditation??
I’ve thought about it from time to time, but I’m so addicted to caffeine that it might not work, even if it is for purely psychological reasons. I’ve drank a lot of coffee for a long time. When I was meditating at school I had cut down a lot on my coffee, so that didn’t affect me too much then, but with the exception of the year and a half I meditated, I drank ten cups of coffee a day for forty years. I had it down to one or two cups of coffee a day when I was meditating. I was going to AA meetings too. I think there is a type of therapy that combines cognitive behavioral therapy with some type of “mindfulness” called “dialectical behavioral therapy”. I might try that.
