Someone who was visiting said “I hate foreigners.” My Dad was a German immigrant. I was just a kid. I didn’t know what to think. I really felt the pain.
That reminds me wen I had a dream that my mum was being smashed up by some thugs down our road. I really felt the pain, even though we aren’t close, suddenly it was like my heart hurt.
I’m sorry they hurt your feelings
Well I tell you I love immigrants!!! Let them come. The more the merrier!!
People don’t know how to handle different.
Yea I’d agree. We tend to like things that are like us. We’re afraid of change I guess. Afraid of the unknown, when I’m reality we’re all the same.
I feel your pain @PinCushion
Both of my parents immigrated to the US from Germany for my dads first job after uni. We lived in the midwest for the first ten years of my life. All of our closest friends were immigrants from Germany, India, Korea who all worked for the same company as my father.
We were called alot of names by other non-immigrant locals. The closed mindedness at the time in small mIdwestern cities (this was many years ago) towards anyone who was different was a major factor in my parents’ decision to move to California which was more welcoming and more diverse.
Most people don’t consider that the wave of immigration to America prior to the Civil War has greatly diluted its Anglo-Saxon blood. The Civil War also drained much of America’s Anglo-Saxon ancestry. Personally, I am one quarter German and one quarter Scotch Irish and one eighth Chickasaw Indian. I don’t know about the rest of my ancestry, but I think I have some Anglo blood in me. How much I don’t know.
I would have loved that! I was born in 1976. Even as a little kid I have been fascinated by people of other cultures. I promise my family would not have mistreated you.
My grandmother’s maiden name is German (Copenhaver). She always loved the Jewish people even though she was a teenager during WWII. There’s no racism in my mom or dad side of the family.
In my dad’s family we have Korean and Chinese (adopted), Mexican, Ecuadorian (my daughter dad is from Ecuador), African American and white. My dad’s cousin married a black man I think in the 1980s not 20 years later than the civil rights movement in the United States.
I’m Cornish but have an Anglo Saxon name and my nan was from a Scottish island . I’m not against immigration most of the Western world is made from it. REFUGEES WELCOME
I agree Refugees Welcome.
Give me your tired, your poor:
Give me your tired, your poor
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore
Send these the homeless tempest-tost to me
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!

In thailand they call foreigners Falang or Farang. They also refer to some as a cash register or ATM
Were getting 500,000 immigrants annually right now in canada. Trust me you dont want that in your state. Youll see your prices go up and your services go down like you wouldnt believe.
Really? I think especially refugees should be able to come here. (Canada/US). I know they’re on welfare initially but you know. People deserve to live in a democracy.
The Americas were founded but immigrants in the first place. There’s been immigration for centuries.
Our annual immigration more than the usa annual immigration and you guys have 10 times our population. Its not sustainable for our infrastructure.
Yeah but never in history has it been done at this rate annually.
We get new immigrants that come here for a new life only to be a bit saddened realizing how much they have to pay for rent. One couple with a kid from iran at my work have to pay 3800 a month for rent and work multiple jobs etc and thats just right now. 5 years from now who knows where it goes.
I get there trying to solve the current retiring workforce issue but the retirees are all sitting on all the property.
Its complex for sure
Western countries count on immigration to grow.
Last i heard, Canada is trying making it a good choice to choose Canada to recruit immigration competing with the US.
In the US we are in need of teachers, doctors, service and low wage jobs, all types of skilled workers that are in short supply.
Yeah its pretty messy though. With all the rising cost, current generation isnt able to afford to start familys easily so the government chooses immigration over incentivizing current younger population to have kids.
Its weird times to be in.
