Getting back to the U.S. someday

I used to live in the U.S. 25 years ago in Connecticut, and I have great memories. One of my dreams is getting back to the U.S. and live there for a few years. I haven’t been there since, so I don’t know how the atmosphere nowadays, but I enjoyed everything about the U.S. in the 90s. What do you think? I’ve joined a correspondence university (the one I used to go to, not correspondence but the same university), so I can’t go for at least four years, but I would travel there and see things for myself when things get settled. I enjoy viewing videos of what it’s like in the U.S. It’s my second home. I hear that it’s too competitive in the U.S. nowadays, but there must be places where I can be comfortable. I’m not tired of living in Japan, but I often feel like it’s suffocating here. Japan has its own problems. I have no problem with English and I enjoy hanging out with American people or any other people. The strange thing is, there are almost no “foreign” people in Japan. There are few. I’m not in a hurry, but I hope to go there again someday.

The US is about to go through a momentous election and I think that right now would be a great time to visit before it happens hopefully the election will go smoothly there won’t be any problems the next 4 years but I don’t think that’s what’s going to happen

The 90s were sort of idylic in the US, except they end w september 11 and iraq war.

Thanks. You never know what’s gonna happen one year from now. Things got really unpredictable since 9/11.

It’s just a reminder to everyone, and I won’t shut down the thread unless it gets too out of control.

Prices have drastically risen, but if you’re willing to not be in a major hub, there are affordable places to stay. Check for websites that tell you crime rates for the areas that cost less before choosing where to stay.

I live well in the US but I want to move to Thailand or the Philippines in the not too distant future. I could live like a king.

You can’t receive SSDI outside the US. Do you plan to work while living abroad, or live off just your veteran disability?

You can get SSDI overseas. They just don’t take Medicare. You might have to come back for a review but I don’t have those often

But I get VA Disability and a retirement check from the Marines also.

I only need one of those in Thailand or the Philippines. The Philippines has a VA clinic in Manila.

My former brother in law lived in Costs Rica with his parents for a couple years. SSDI refused to let him have his money that ehole time. They reinstated it when he came back to the US

You have to fill out some paperwork. But I would maintain my home here also.

He filled out the paperwork but was refused. Maybe you’ll be ok because you’re keeping your residence in the US. That might make a difference

Off topic. Do you know the band Casiopea? This is awesome!

I am just going to let my my wife have it anyway. I don’t need it. She wants to stay in the house here so I don’t even need to change my address. She can have my retirement check, both homes, my SSDI check and the business. I just want my VA disability.

The only thing stopping me from leaving are my cars and my dogs. I really like my cars and my dogs. I like my house too but she won’t go anywhere else.

So, are you two splitting? I’m glad you can live off the VA check alone.
