For those of you using public transportation, how often have you seen a gay couple holding hands while riding? Maybe Los Angeles or New York, but here in Arkansas? It meant something to me seeing this, a sign.
I think it’s great for them to feel safe enough to display public affection
Thanks @LilyoftheValley. There’s security cameras on each bus here, and the police patrol the bus station. I wouldn’t feel too comfortable at some of the bus stops though.
That’s too bad, because I love seeing all kinds of partners holding hands. I think it’s sweet.
My husband makes a point to always hold hands. (Well cause he loves me too)
No matter where we are in the country.
That is badass @anon54988740 to see always.
Thanks @anon55031185 @Kxev.
Why do we have to think of our safety to be normal? @LilyoftheValley
You don’t have to. But there are horrible people out there who would attack people if they knew they were gay. It’s wrong but it happens everywhere. I’m happy for that couple that holds hands etc in public
Where I live there are lots and lots of queer / gay couples who hold hands. It’s a very religious area, but 50% of the people are very liberal, too.
Well if you held hands at the University, hospitals, and west end of town there wouldn’t be any problems. I was thinking about the Southwest area of the city and Pike avenue. These are ghetto areas.
It’s really strange to me that people would tell us to hide our feelings in public for our own protection.
@LilyoftheValley no offense - I understand you meant well.
I’m bisexual and used to date women, so I do understand
The only problem with not being our normal selves in public is - the next generation doesn’t get equality, it goes on and on. So we keep the community in the closet for the sake of heterosexual bullies.
We are prepared to defend ourselves or be beaten for our own dignity.
Have you seen The Old Guard? Two of the characters are gay, but it’s incidental to the story. The main thing is they’re awesome and they whup some tail.
@anon54988740 your generation did a lot for me to have the rights i have. And my generation continued the fight for the rights of the youth. Its been a long road.
Well I carry pepper spray with me. That’s about all I can do to defend myself. Guns are prohibited on the public transportation here and in my apartment building, so I can’t have one.
Well this was an older gay couple on the bus.
That’s super cool @shutterbug It’s cool how you noticed portrayals of gay characters being incidental. And not tokens.
I am just saying from what me and you talked about your experience and I learned from other lgbtq members its important to learn about the brutal history - and lifestyle men and woman had to go through to live in society. And when we meet young lgbtq youth who don’t know Harvey milk or anything about the past - we educate them and they understand where and how we are still marginalized and they need to know we are always under attack.
Sorry but 300 anti-gay legislation is on the table since January of 2022 - Things are gonna be bad for many lgbtq adults and kids. More to come. Also - Gay marriage can be overturned next.
People just hate us.
They’re awesome characters, they’re just gay characters. Another on screen relationship I like is Stamets/Culber on Discovery. They make puppy eyes at each other. Great acting.
