Have you heard of Matthew Shepard being killed in Wyoming back in the 1990’s. He seems forgotten nowadays.
@anon54988740 We drove through Wyoming and made sure to stop by the town of Laramie where he was brutally tortured and murdered.
My allies family / friends have kept reassuring me my marriage will be safe. For years as we told them we fear its not. Several Supreme Court justices have voiced that they do not like the ruling and want it reversed for years.
Thanks @Kxev. My mom served as a juror on the trial of a man who tortured and killed an elderly gay man here in the Little Rock area back in the 1980’s. He was convicted but only sentenced to life in prison. They had objections from one of the jurors on giving him the death penalty.
I think that’s pretty historic.
My understanding is if it was legal the time you married, your marriage can’t be undone if gay marriage is overturned. Just future marriages wouldn’t be allowed.
[In 2020] Justices Alito and Clarence Thomas released an opinion saying that the right for same-sex couples to get married needs to come to an end because of its “ruinous consequences for religious liberty.”
No - If the powers shift and the party in power has certain all the veto powers - they can make it gay marriage ILLEGAL in ALL STATES in a few years.
Thanks for the info @Kxev
dont see too many openly gay couples in the hood areas here. most people who are gang members or associate with them are super homophobic
I kind of have to stay on top of issues that involve my rights and dignity. Losing my marriage will be detrimental to me mentally and how many legal rights i have as a married couple will be stripped.
Can’t escape hate.
Common sense is just a talk away
It’s easy to hate the things you don’t know or understand. It’s harder to love and accept everything outside of yourself. It would be better for you to challenge your way of thinking, than spew judgement.
@Kxev what @LilyoftheValley said was very true. You live in a fairly accepting area. Others do not. It is super normal for people to prioritize their safety over their self-expression. It is great that you can hold hands with your husband in public. It is great that you don’t fear being attacked because of it. But many people do, and many more have in the past. The entire reason it makes us so happy to see lgbt couples in public is precisely because of all the times we felt unsafe in the past.
I apologize @anon54988740 for being so vocal about your topic. It’s just really cool to know there are folks in your area trying to be themselves to the point it meant something to you and surprised you.
Its pretty accept3d in my area.
For me im not a touchy person tho i rarely like to hold my gfs hand, i turn into a slinky cat and i shrink away
I would add the bus I was on comes from an area of town where a lot of LGBTQ people live. Little Rock is the highest city on HRC’s rating for LGBTQ people in Arkansas, but compared to other cities in the US that’s maybe a C-.
I think its really cool that there is a community there.
This article is from 2020:
The score for Little Rock was 66. I was being kind saying it was a C-.
When I was in ATL airport a couple weeks ago there was a very, very affectionate gay couple on my flight.
They were young, so I understood why all the PDA.
The only reason they were really noticable was because they were all over each other,
Not because they were gay.
