Pride Safe this year? Is it worth it to go?

Just was talking to my husband about taking sister, niece and nephew. Probably not a good idea.

I say it’s worth the risk. Don’t succumb to fear.

I suspect the individual in question will be in a “quiet room” shortly.

Doubtful. The police don’t care about this kind of stuff because they often agree with them

I keep meaning to invest in a concealable ballistic vest for things like this in case some right-wing terrorist decides to throw lead in my direction

Must be one of those crazy American things. That’s not tolerated in Canada.

Yeah, I’m afraid to be in public where I live without some kind of taser or pepper spray because I worry about people in this town hate criming me. I don’t trust anyone here.

We have discussed getting both too a taser and pepper spray.
We were thinking of going just because theres so many anti lgbtq laws out.
But don’t want to be in the middle of violence for it.

I feel compelled to defend the police and sheriffs in this thread. When I was homeless on my trek to to the east coast, they were very kind to me. Giving me rides and money to help me on my way. I’m not going to go so far as to defend all police conduct, but they are not all bad.

Because of the kindness I was shown, I have a difficult time letting a picture of them being all bad be painted. Of course I can only speak to the authorities in the areas I travelled in. And I can only speak to my own experience.

@Bowens
Maybe 60/40%

In my experience, 90% were friendly and helpful. But I live in the midwest and all the states I travelled in were basically in the midwest as well. I have no idea what police are like in other parts of the country.

I have run into police before that have authority problems though.

I feel like you shouldn’t let a few idiots keep you from doing what you want.

I mean, do you really take these guys seriously?

They look like complete jackasses, incapable of anything.

And @Bowens,

The police were nice to you because you’re a white man.

They mistreat just about every other kind of human.

It’s a sad fact.

I’m in the Midwest. My mom dated a cop who used his gun to rape my 14 year old sister on a regular basis. He even started in on me. I was 10. He told us if we told he would kill us and set it up to look like self defense against bad kids

Dont let these people making threats change your behaviour. Just go and if anything happens go to the police. Doubt anything will.

I would be dead by now if they hadn’t scraped my drunk arse off of cold winter streets and put me in a warm cell overnight. Not good to pass out on the sidewalk during a cold snap. I send the local RCMP detachment a thank you card every year on my sober date to acknowledge their part in my sobriety.

I cannot speak for anyone else. But not all the police that assisted me were white. Are you suggesting that the brown and black officers are prejudiced as well?

As I said, I can only speak to my own experiences. I am well aware that not all police are good. Some abuse their authority. I just think that often too broad a brush is painted. I am sorry for that incident.

I’m saying they helped you because you’re a white male.

And yes, I don’t trust any cop, regardless.

I’ve been mistreated too many times.

And another cop I know of planted drugs in an innocent man’s car so he could get a drug bust. My friend went to prison for 10 years before the cop finally felt bad and admitted what he had done. My friend lost 10 years in the prime of his life.

Also, what about 15 years ago when almost all the cops in metro Detroit Plymouth had to be fired because they were letting the drugs in and making a profit
