Fruits are so damn expensive!

Take a look at misfit food box. They are a food box for fruits and vegetables that didn’t make the cut to be sold at the store. There’s nothing wrong with the food, it just didn’t meet aesthetic standards for the store. You can get fruit and veggies for cheaper than ordering them through like Amazon food or something.

Not sure about prices today or if they even deliver to your area, but its worth a check.

I dont know if they have anything like that in Canada @TheCanuk.

Yeah, I heard the premier and some government minister announce the raise. I posted about it here. The problem is the minimum wage is going to be $15.00/hr but the government official admitted a living wage, depending on where you live, is about $20.00/hr, and $22.00/hr if you live in Toronto.

I make more than the minimum wage so this won’t affect me though.

Good pomegrenates are 4$ each here. On special you can get them for 3$. Or you can get low quality about to expire ones for cheaper, they sell them in a pack of two and if they don’t sell they go to the garbage.

POM brand pomegrenates are even more than 4$ each but they’re the best, big and juicy. I think pomegrenate is cheaper in the US. 1.4L of POM pomegrenate juice sells for 15$ here.

My father needs it to raise his hemoglobin levels

I never knew you could drink pomegranate juice for that, but I guess it doesn’t matter. My dad has very low hemoglobin levels but he is on a fluid restriction diet because he has stage 4 heart disease and fluid buildup on his heart which is extremely dangerous. (he can only have 4 cups of liquid a day to drink) so he can’t drink something like pomegranate juice on a regular basis. He takes something called EMBfer which works really well.

Hell, I can buy grapes for 99 cents a pound, on sale. I can find avocados for 50 - $1.00 each. Some places sell them for $2.00 each though.

If I’m lucky I can find asparagus on sale for $1.50 a pound. Regular price is usually $4.99 a pound.

When watermelons were in season and on sale I could find them for as cheap as $2.99 each.

You’re right though, fruit and vegetables can be expensive. The trick is to go online and find out which ones are in season and then they’re cheaper. For instance, when strawberries are in season in summer I can find them for $1.50 a pound. In winter though they range from $3.25 - $3.75 a pound. When potatoes are in season they are cheaper.

A favorite restaurant we used to go to charged $9 for the buffet in the past. Now it charges $20 and that doesn’t include drinks.

The trick is to always buy in season. We’ve gotten spoiled by fruits being available year round. Right now apples are in season, so those are a lot cheaper when you hit up farmer markets and even some stores sell big bins of local apples.

Most tropical fruit don’t go by season but stuff like berries and apples do.

grapes are probably one of the least healthy fruits they are full of sugar thats why they are used to make wine

Yeah veggies and fruits are really expensive at supermarkets here… so I get them from the produce junction… Aldi has good deals on fruits and veggies too…
