Fraud! It’s getting old now

I just tried to open a savings account online with Discover Bank in Utah USA. I didn’t think it would be a big deal as I already have a checking account with them.

The online application wanted to verify it was really me, so it asked me which of three phone numbers I wanted a security code texted to. One number was my mom’s old landline that was disconnected in 2020. The second number was an old cell phone of mine from years ago. The third number I didn’t have a clue.

So I have to sign a form with my Arkansas ID number on it, have it notarized, and fax it back to Discover Bank.

All this because someone stole $10,000 of pandemic unemployment funds back in 2020 using my name, date of birth, and Social Security number.

It looks like I’m totally screwed for the rest of my life. On the bright side I’m 63 and have much longer to live.

btw I’m on disability and have no right to claim unemployment.
