For those familiar with cats

And other cat owners.

I have a cat that is still a bit standoffish and skittish

Although she can be affectionate she doesn’t like to be picked up or held.
She will struggle to escape.

She also seems to run away from humans when quickly approached

My question is, will the Vet and technician be able to handle her and complete their examination of her when she’s so skittish?

I’m afraid she’ll run away from them and they will have a difficult time managing her?

She has a Vet appointment in two weeks.

That’s prolly just her personality. I have a couple cats that love pets, but hate getting picked up. I have one that loves all of us but hides when people come over. Don’t worry, the vets will be gentle with her. They know what they are doing.

I don’t currently have a cat, but I’ve had to deal with my sister’s cats in the past.

The vet is fully prepared to deal with the worst of animals.

I have a very unfriendly dog and they’re great with him.

They’ll get her taken care of.

Yah, she’ll be alright. There are many ways they can examine and treat skittish cats with minimal handling. Vets are trained to do that. She’ll be alright.

They also have special gloves for scared cats to avoid being clawed and bitten

But some cats will fool you. They’ll be demons going into the carrier, then make liars out of us at the vet and be angels.

The thing that worries me is that the receptionist or vet tech over the phone said that most likely the Vet will be able to examine her unless she is on the verge of having a panic attack!

Then they won’t be able to examine her and they will send her back home with a sedative prescription.

I really hope you are right and the Vet is trained and equipped to handle a nervous and skittish cat.

I’d hate to bring her back to the Vets so soon.

Vet appointments can be so traumatic for cats.

It’s traumatic, but necessary. Cats are resilient and respond well to aftercare.

Get some treats to give her when you.pick her up, then in the car, then at home. If you follow this after-treat each time, she’ll associate the visit with that.
