Getting treated like an imbecile or child

I like my cats vet but every time I see her she treats me like I’m a child.

I think she gets the sense that there is something “special” about me but this is ridiculous, it’s very demoralizing.

I am getting very uncomfortable with her in the office but I put up with it because she is very good with Colette

I must come across a little off in my behavior with others.

My family is used to it but it’s different with strangers

She’s probably like that with everyone.

You seem really unsure of your cats needs sometimes. She probably feels the need to educate you or that you don’t know how to care for a cat. I’m not trying to insult you just maybe she senses your unsurety sometimes. Try to be assertive and confident, then people don’t make silly assumptions.

My vet does the same thing. I think its because of my extreme anxiety, they pick up on it.

No I don’t think so.

I was acting a bit anxious and erratic with my last vet, her colleague in the same building.

I’m sure they talked.

Yeah she must sense my anxiety.

I am a bit of a novice when it comes to cats but I think that I’m pretty assertive with her @anon55031185

It’s not that at all.

As a matter of fact I suggested that I place my cat on a Limited Ingredient Diet and she agreed with me.

Hard to say with confidence but its possible your vet is trying to take your MH into consideration and trying to be kind and extra nice to you but it comes across as condescending.

My dentist was like that at first. One time he even said “good boy” to me once (I was 29 years old). I think just try and ignore it and act like an adult and hopefully they tone it down as they get used to you. Its what happened with my dentist.

I think you are right @StarCrazy
Maybe we’ll get used to each other in time.

I get that IRL when my daughter takes me out in the wheelchair. Ditto with some people online when I’ve mentioned I have ASD and SMI .

It can be humiliating
