Facebook watching

So I got on Facebook a year ago, after going 10 years without it. I logged in to my surprise my ex popped up on my suggestions. I am stunned because I am under an alias. How does Facebook know who my ex is? I started my face for family, not people in my town. I did block him as I don’t want to be found. Now I’m paranoid.

If your X is friends with someone you have on your facebook it will suggest him as a friend or if you ever looked at his facebook page. I don’t like that if you look at someone’s page FB suggests you as a friend to them.

Also people from your area are suggested.

I have 2 Facebook accounts. One with all my family members and another with no friends. The no friends Facebook account keeps on suggesting to “add friends” or my family members from my “family members Facebook” account. I think its because I am using the same computer but different browsers as well as the same IP address that makes the friend suggestions to my “no friends” Facebook account.

I was the one that broke up with him. I just suddenly stopped talking to him. I’d say he might blame me. It was a sad sitch.

They probably employ some wierd and wonderful algorythyms to suggest freinds to you. My account was disabled once cos someone else was messeging using my account when i wasnt using it. I honestly wouldnt worry about it.

I never have added anyone from facebook suggestions. I acknowledge those I like and ignore the rest.

Facebook is quite clever in how they manipulate things. I get a lot of suggestions from the cricket club. Some people fine. Others I don’t know from squat.

I wouldn’t get too excited by facebook recommendations. I’ve read 1984 and I don’t think capitalists are that clever when it comes to software development. It’s all about making money!

I used facebook five years ago and then I deactivated my fb account. I do not like fb and the only social media I use is this forum. I just concluded that fb was not for me. I have been here on the forum (including the old forum) close to six years.

I have eliminated all info the public sees. No place where I live. All other info. Unfortunately I can’t hide my profile pics.

It happened to me before. I gave my phone number to someone, the next day that person appeared in my suggestion list on facebook.

Two possible scenarios I came up with:

a) the person used my number to search me on facebook
b) facebook scanned his contact list and found my number

Creepy algorithm indeed.

This happened to me too! I think it must take phone numbers from your device and track people. Either way it’s creepy.

I saw once an interview on the net where the fb people said they wanted to have people addicted to their services, it is good for them when people are using their fb services, being addicted is not a good thing. I am glad I do not use fb.

It’s hilarious watching the instagram coming up with all sorts of things just to lure you back opening that app once again.

My facebook is deleted as well since it personally adds no value to my recovery.

As saying goes: Suround yourself with influences you want to learn from, books, audio, etc.

Does that include fake accounts?

Probably, but still 1 billion users is a lot even without the fake accounts.
