Experiences with Wellbutrin

Trying in about 7 weeks more than likely, so would like to hear experiences.

I forgot to mention that I had more anxiety on Wellbutrin but in theory it should help with anhedonia and negative symptoms as it increases dopamine and norepinephrine. Increases in both have been linked to anxiety.

Honestly depending on the person and the illness it can help or worsen problems I take it with lamictal and haldol idk if it does anything but it I just used it without haldol I’d be so far gone I’d have to go involuntarily to the psych ward

Thanks for your input @AwesomeFisherman

It got me through college when I suffered from more basic depression. I had to stop taking it when I developed sz symptoms though because it seemed to make the voices more of a problem, like fuel on a fire. It was a shame cuz it gave me extra energy and helped me crave cigarettes less.

My doctor warned me it might affect the voices but let me try it once again later for a short time anyhow. He ended up being right.

NP, I don’t remember if you hear voices or not, but if you don’t, it might not be a problem. I think that’s the only drawback I faced.

I do not hear voices no. But doc did mention there is the potential of psychosis.

Yes that is because it increases dopamine in striatum but its only a tiny tiny effect compared to stimulants like Adderall and Ritalin. What sucks is that its the dopamine increase that helps negative symptoms so increasing it may also worsen positive symptoms.

I take Bupropion and I think it helps.

Does clozapine block dopamine?
I’m still waiting to tamper off it while my pdoc will introduce Vraylar…mostly also for negative symptoms hmmm

All aps block dopamine but some more than others, also blocking dopamine is not the only mechanism to treat positive symptoms. Clozapine blocks dopamine but much less than other aps except for partial agonists, third gen aps, like abilify, vraylar and rexulti. Clozapine has other mechanisms than blocking dopamine for treating positive symptoms, it also acts on GABA, NMDA and Histamine receptors. Imo Vraylar is better for negative and cognitive symptoms vs Clozapine.

Thx for reply
Yes my cognitive function and negative symptoms are bothering me

I’m on low dose of clozapine right now 125mg a day and luckily no positive symptoms
Been this way for almost a year

It’s weird, years ago I was on a higher dose of clozapine but had less negative symptoms. I was somewhat a zombie though.

Wellbutrin was great for me. I got tons of energy and actually enjoyed doing things after a year of straight anhedonia

I’ve been on Wellbutrin for a while. I don’t think it helps much with my depression. but hoping you find it helpful
