All antipsychotics are associated with extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS). These can present as dysphagia, esophageal dysmotility, or aspiration, all of which may not be recognized as EPS.

Ugh. My dysphagia comes on when I’m trying to go to sleep. I just cannot make my throat swallow. It freaks me out, it scares me.

Yea me too, it makes it hard to breath.

I wonder if Benztropine/Cogentin can help this swallowing difficulty.

I don’t know. I’ll look up the side effects – cause that’s what helps me determine whether I’m willing to try a med or not – and then maybe bring it up to my pdoc when I see him in 2 weeks.

Are you going to ask about it?

One Dr said I have dry mouth while another said I have sleep apnea so idk. I will ask my psychiatrist about Benztropine for difficulty swallowing.

I have some difficulty swallowing food and have to be very careful when eating not to choke. It’s been going on for a few years. I choke on dry or bready things like thick pizza crust or sandwiches on rolls. If something is dry in my mouth I will take a sip of something I’m drinking to thin it out so I can swallow more easily.

I have dysphagia too since an year… :smirk: But I find , that in my case, it’s because of my anxiety, even the paranoia and the febrility of my body, caused by worrying non stop…
But yeap, this report is true too…
Idk how I’ll do it if one day, I’ll want to go to a restaurant with friends, this is depressing :unamused:
I have one friend, who has just anxiety disorder and she knew the dysphagia too lol… I thought, that I am alone on this…
Yeap, I guess when the meds oppress too much all of it, even these functions suffer…
Health to all, we need the meds though…
