Does schizophrenia lower your IQ?

Do you get less smart after developing schizophrenia? Or does your IQ remain the same?

In group studies IQ drops mostly just before the first psychotic episode and then remains more or less the same from then on, but there is a lot of individual variation.

I think so, every schizophrenic I saw had lower IQ, I think that for exceptional cases like John Nash this can be mild but most have a bigger impact.

I think so. Last time I had an mri I had white spots all over my brain.

I don’t think SZ has made me stupid, my brain just works in a much more complicated way.

I got a really low score the one time i took an IQ test. it was a 3 hour long neuro psych exam though I wanted to take so I knew what was wrong with me. I a 129. Though I read alot. i usually have 2 or more books going and keep up with the New York Times. A lot of the test was math though and I failed all of it. I’ve never been able to do math. That must have brought my score down significantly. I don’t really believe in IQ per say. It’s just a score on a test. It could vary and not being able to do math or things like this can bring down the results significantly.

Pretty sure it went down as my grades in university went down too after my 1st psychosis. IQ isnt everything, there is emotional, social, and creative intelligences. These went down the most. Math was the least affected.

No, it just raises people’s stupidity.

No, it’s only visions, voices, energy loss, tension, and stress. NO FUN!!
