Discuss… have they been able to induce sz in anyone by giving them a drug?
I think drugs are a trigger more than a cause.

Never really used drug and ended up with schiz
I know they can trigger psychosis but I don’t think that’s the same as sz.

I think in a lot of mouse models they mimic sz by giving them pcp

I think sz is a genetic brain disease, either you get it or you don’t. Can drugs make it occur sooner? Idk
Yes, some people actually have drug induced sz/sza. Like LSD induced or mescaline induced for example.

I think recreational drugs destroy your brain chemistry, and permanently change the levels so you need medications to normalize them again.

My son’s pdoc told him that “twelve hits of LSD will make you sz”.
A previous boss of mine took a ton of lsd and all he got were flashbacks
Weed… Maybe makes symptoms worse.

LSD has been shown to cause instances of psychotic behaviour in those who have not taken it.

I don’t know. Maybe people are predisposed and drug use is a trigger.

Nobody could get me to take LSD. I would have to be forced.

I know a lot of people that have done tons of LSD that have no mental problems at all,
Or at least within what I would consider “normal” problems.
I’ve done LSD and it didn’t make my schizophrenia worse.
To answer the question,
I think drugs make people with a propensity for schizophrenia go overboard and start to cause symptoms.

Yeah, mescaline triggered full blown sza but I was predisposed to it.

Do you mean it triggered psychosis or you got sza after taking it? I’ve had drug induced psychosis before but it wasn’t until I was clean for 6 months that sz symtoms appeared and stayed
