Is it helpful? What kind of stuff do you get?
I donate to them.
we got a bunch of pulled pork, frozen chicken, pork patties, pasta, canned goods, bread, produce…this was a couple days ago…little snacks like oreo cookies, and granola bars.
I donate money every month. This is something I believe in.
I regularly buy good stuff for the food pantry, depending on what’s on sale. I usually don’t put cheap stuff in there, but often there’s buy one get one free deals at my grocery store on things like Ritz crackers. Or I found organic juice boxes on closeout recently. Yummy good quality cereals, things like that.
It’s funny you mention the food pantry, my Food Lion has been doing a food drive during the whole month of September. I have been out of control manic and psychotic up until yesterday - prolly put $100 in food in those boxes so far, but have been too paranoid to eat anything other than cheese sandwiches and bananas myself. Yay Geodon for helping me dig out of that…I have no problem supporting the food pantry but that was more than could afford, and I lost 10 pounds in 12 days by not eating.
I mean to the Food Bank, that is.
Yes. They went from giving a couple of bags of groceries once a month and a bag of vegetables and fruit two times a month to giving one bag a week of groceries, vegetables and fruit. I usually get a half gallon of milk, a dozen eggs a can of fruit, either fish or chicken and a couple bags of beans and rice which I give back because I already have plenty of beans and rice. And I usually get fresh potatoes, onions, carrots, and sometimes (if I’m lucky) grapes or cherries.
In Oakland I constantly found boxes of food abandoned on the sidewalk outside my apartment. Carrots, celery, full jugs of milk, bread. Looks like the homeless had taken the crate, picked one or two things from it, and abandoned the rest.
To answer the question though no we never used it, and I felt like it was being poorly managed with all that sidewalk food going to waste.
Used a food bank years ago. You can garuntee it will be pasta, with a bolenise sauce and out of date bread lol. They love to chuck in kidney beans as well, who eats those lol.
Not my thing. My team will give out food vouchers from time to time, which is easier - cos you can choose your own food.
I just recently went to one. Lots of produce. And random things like a buttload of hazelnuts, peanut butter and raisins. Some stuff we are taking to another food bank as it will go to waste here. But im needing to utilize food banks more due to food assistance not being much.
Also went to a hygiene closet and got a few things from there. It was nice that they put it on once a month.
