Do you think schizophrenia is the worst thing that can happen to a person?

I used to belief that the body can suffer quite a bit more than the mind, but I have found out that the mind can suffer quite a bit too. It probably serves no purpose to rank all the different forms of suffering in terms of their severity. Let’s just say there are a LOT of ways people can suffer.

Can I ask why you think Alzheimer’s is worse?

I think, its how well a person is prepared to fight, with mind and body.
I still wonder there would be a variation of death threshold with every individual person.
It would differ from person to person.
As time pass by one should be able to withstand all sort of issues.
Depending on the issue.
Time plays a major role.

Anyone who hurts my daughter will find out just how much worse.

I have a disease that destroys the upper neurons of my spinal cord…until I die. Kinda like ALS but less severe.

It causes severe pain and cramps 24/7. I also get bad restless leg syndrome.

But I’m thankful that I have learnt to live with it, and I have a supportive community. So it isn’t so bad.

The world health organization say that Schizophrenia is the next worst condition only exceeded by blindness

The decay of brain matter is vastly more profound than in sz. It has very similar symptoms to sz but they cant be treated with most antipsychotics.

Its not great but there are far crueller fates. Many of which aren’t mutually exclusive to have SZ. There’s nothing stopping your situation getting worse so I don’t think its wise to believe you are in the worst situation possible. Because its clearly not true.

I once met another guy with sz who was a homeless orphan with a bent spine that he got from being abused as a kid. It showed me just how good my life is.

I think I could adapt to being blind if it werent for mental illness. Having schizophrenia and being blind would be more frightening…my vision is already impaired enough so my biggest fear would be becoming blind and not knowing where or who Im really talking to…I still think I could survive it. My mom has schizophrenia and she can no longer walk/broke both of her ankles/has diabetes…Im more scared that if I move she wont have my help…but at the same time she says she’ll be fine.

I’ve had panic attacks before and anxiety to me thats worse than paranoia from schizophrenia. For me, paranoia never induced the sort of fear-panic from anxiety I dont recall that. Moreso I was just delusional about everything and didnt trust anyone. But i wasnt actually afraid if that makes sense.

I dont really think its that bad. Im learning more about the possibility of encaphalitis and nutrition deficiencies might be pre-cursors to schizophrenia. I dont think its solely based on genetics one person in my social work class did a video about a encephalitis being responsible for childhood misdiagnosed disorders like OCD etc. and its caused by a virus or type of parasite, or immune system response. Watched the movie :“Brain on Fire” and I still wonder if more research should be done to confirm how to treat mental illness beyond just psychiatric medications.

Also, reducing stress helps a ton. The mind/body can adapt. It takes will power. I de-programmed myself a bit from psychiatry’s propaganda and i think it actually helped me overcome some of my symptoms.

Yes it is. Not to be negative, but it always ends up that the people who love you the most get pushed away…this illness made me have that type/conspiracy fears etc. I have it managed right now though.

My mother went blind when I was a child and her world was more challenging than mine. Also, this was before everything moved to touch screens, which are useless for those who can’t see.
