The “swear filter” is based on words that have been added by Staff to a Watched Words/Censor list. Based on this list, the forum software allows posts containing these words, but replaces them with characters that hide the censored words.
As far as I know, there is no way for the forum software to allow for the “swear filter” to be optional for individual forum members (e.g., to customize whether they see swear words filtered or not).
If the Watched Words/Censor list contained zero words, the “swear filter” would essentially be null and void but it would be for the entire forum.
