Do you call your significant other "Baby"?

Yeah we mostly do it to gross out the kids lol

I don’t think it’s neccessarily a universal truth. If I had a bf and if he called me baby, he might just mean it cos he thinks I’m cute.

But in my mind I can’t help but think of actual babies and that grosses me out.

Or at the least just makes me feel awkward

Names I use on Mr. Star:
Darling
Babe
Honey dumpling
Muffin
Dear
Sweetie
My heart
Sexy
Gorgeous
Doll
Handsome
Trophy husband
Light of my life
Sugar
Love
Favorite human
Cutie

It started just as a joke, because it made him blush. But somewhere along the line, he stopped blushing and I stopped realizing I was using my cutesy names.

I sometimes say things like “Hey Gorgeous” and other complimentary things, but i don’t use pet names like baby, love, dear like @Blossom does above (No offence OcelotKitty, if that makes you guys happy all the power to you), I just don’t feel natural doing it.

No weirder than me calling our cats “Gobble”, “Turkey”, “Potato”, “Chonk”, “Flappy” (Fable has saggy skin for some reason). I call them cute names but also rude names, in a loving way???

I just call my husband hun, and sometimes I say Hey Sexy! I can’t call a 6’6” bodybuilder babe or baby lol. Same with other pet names. They just don’t seem to fit

I call her “who are you?”

My friend and I still call each other “honey” all the time. What’s really embarrassing is now I find myself calling my sister honey. She never objects so I’m thankful. At least she knows I love her.

I don’t mind being called pet names, but I’d prefer baby girl to baby. I’d also prefer dirtier pet names, tbh.

If I can’t call my SO sir or daddy, he would never be my SO. I’d never imagine calling a guy baby tho, or babe, sweetie, or anything feminine. Not the kind of dynamic I’m into, even in good humor.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I love pet names.
But words like “daddy” and “baby” doesn’t exactly make me think of romantic/sexual partners.

They’re for some folks, not for others. The daddy thing weirds me out, but I get that some folks are into it and that doesnt make them unhealthy or codependent. It also has strong ties to the LGBT community, because, prior to gay marriage being legalized in the US, the most common way for same sex partners to share benefits was by one legally “adopting” the other.

This I did not know. I appreciate the creativity and adaptability.

Now that I think about it I don’t think any of the women I have been with have had a pet name for me either. I have memories of giving each other compliments and saying sweet nothings to eachother but never pet names in daily life.

But I have had partners where we had pet names for each others genitalia though, lol.

Colour me curious; care to share?
