Married LGBTQs

Does referring to your married partner husband / wife make you cringe.

Just because i/we were never allowed to marry for so long. My and my spouse are conflicted and feel cringe using these terms. Also rude people will ask us which of us is the wife.

Same thing with hubby and wifey. Cringe.

But spouse / partner sounds so sterile.
So I’m never consistent with these words.
Maybe it’s our own self inflicted issue.

It’s confusing for me sometimes, also. I swap back and forth depending on the situation, generally.

I don’t think the labels matter. I think it’s the commitment signified by the marriage that matters. If there’s love and respect between the partners, then everything else is icing on the cake.

I have used Significant Other before. It conveys that they are special.

I actually like that. It got lost in my rotation - haven’t thought of that.
