Do you believe in inteligent life outside Earth?

I believe in it.

@everhopeful

What do you thinks about why we don’t had any alien contact yet?

They’re too far away probably.

Seeing as how it took life on earth three and a half billion years to evolve from microbial life to intelligent life, we would probably find a lot of planets that had very primitive life forms on them before we found technologically advanced life, if they follow the same rate of progress we had followed on earth. Looking at how long it took intelligent life to discover technology, we would probably find a lot of intelligent life that was not as technologically advanced as us. This college astronomy professor at school once mentioned this theory among astronomers that shortly after life becomes intelligent on a planet it destroys itself with nuclear weapons. There are a lot of things that can destroy life on a planet - astroids, thermonuclear war, super deadly disease, and whatnot. Even if there is only one technologically advanced form of life in every galaxy, that would mean there are a hundred billion technologically advanced civilizations in the universe.

I think that’s probably a good estimate.

Could be they are watching us right now to see if we are worth helping, like if we would use any technology they gave us in war or in some other destructive way. They’re probably watching us to see if we are toxic, not just biologically, but spiritually too. Could be they’re checking to see if they have any contagious diseases that could wipe us out, or if we had any that could wipe them out.

My favorite joke:

Q: What’s the best proof that intelligent life exists outside of Earth?
A: They have not tried to contact us.

Never heard that thanks

Absolutely, if only for the statistics. Think about how many BILLIONS of galaxies there are. How could we be the anomaly?

It’s scary to think “what if we are indeed alone”, that’s such a huge responsability.

Anyhoo, I think we’re not. I think there has to be more intelligent life somewhere, in some other form, or creepier, just like us.

But it’s like they say, if aliens try to watch over here in search of intelligent life they would see dinossaurs.

Maybe dinos were smarter than us.
At least they weren’t destroying the planet.

I agree… To me the thought of being alone is WAY scarier than the alternative. As an atheist, that would probably shake me to the core.

Really good counterpoint. That one made me think lol.

If a civilization is intelligent enough to master interstellar flight they are probably advanced enough that they would wipe us out easily. All they would have to do is nudge a good sized astroid onto a collision course with earth and let gravity do the rest.

If there is intelligent life I think it is more likely there are aggressive and imperialist. It seems more stable that they would think things this way. All nations today exist because they had to conquer the land from somebody. Also we have a hard time excepting other humans imagine another alien race. I think that if there is intelligent life they are far away or they would’ve attacked us by now. The encounter wouldn’t be like the movie independence day it would be similar to what happened with the US and the native americans. This is probably different from most people’s view on it but I believes it follows human behaivor and game theory nicely.

That scenario has been brought up before. However, if they are technologically advanced enough to travel through interstellar space, they have enough technology that they don’t need slaves. Machines will be doing the work for them. The kind of work the aliens would have would be cerebral. They might steal resources from us, but they can find more precious metals on astroids, and as for energy, they can probably get that from the sun, unless their space ship is nuclear powered. Then they might need our uranium. They can probably find that on astroids too.

who says they haven’t made contact yet. If I were alien and came to this planet, obviously i would be more advanced because I got here first. So I would be able to blend in and just figure people out before making my next move. I think it would be like the movie Extant
