Do you believe gaydar is real?

When I was prodromal I believed I could tell who was gay. During psychosis I thought / was gay. Now after psychosis I tend to feel like I can tell whether or not a guy is gay based on how he sits, talks, mannerisms etc. Is this a delusion? I thought my arabic teacher was gay and my friend confirmed it. I also thought my disability guy was gay. I’m still on the fence about whether my brother is lgbt. How likely is it that I’m suffering from a delusion, or are just plenty of guys coming out of the closet in 2018.

Do you believe gaydar is real? What are your opinions on it? Are some people better at telling, e.g people who are gay themselves?

No.

Of course sometimes you can tell from context,

But even that isn’t 100%,

Its just us stereotyping.

Gaydar is 100% real. It’s how we find each other. I don’t know of many straight folks who have accurate gaydar, though. They mostly rely on stereotypes and such. LGBT+ folks have an easier time recognizing each other, probably because we can relate to each other.

Gaydar. Isn’t that one of the Mutant Ninja Turtles?

I have my doubts about many people in the entertainment business that seem gay, mainly musicians and movie stars… I thought it was obvious in many stars that I never even heard rumors about but I was right a lot.
I have to admit though that Kevin Spacey coming out was a shocker.

Just two or three years ago I thought it was obvious to the whole world that Justin Bieber is gay. There were rumors and he went through an androgynous phase that made him seem obviously gay, but I guess people forget about that now.

I think queer people can pick up on other queer people with better accuracy but its never 100%. of course theres extreme cases where its somewhat obvious, just based on stereotypes but that could always backfire

Yes, I believe gaydar is very real. Among gay persons who are really gay. It isn’t so real among bisexual persons however. I am bisexual and I have lousy gaydar. Straight people all have lousy gaydar too.

Ive always thought ive had a good Gaydar, but i am quite effeminate for a bloke but yeah i can tell from a mile off. Its not just their mannerisms i can just tell and 99% of the time im right!

You might be a closet or latent case.

As a not straight not cis person there are some things that we notice that I guess would count as gaydar. But a lot of people just use stereotypes unfortunately.

I think youve got a point there. For a long time i considered myself bi-sexual , even tho ive never acted upon it!

My gaydar really isn’t so bad but they gotta be like really obvious. Still, straights can’t pick them out.

i believe i can tell if a woman or a man is gay, easiest most obvious way is they do things that mostly impress people of their gender, things that the opposite gender has little or no interest in and uses much of their time.

How come every single time I just tell the truth on this site, my post either gets flagged or someone gets upset with me?

Sorry, but I live in the real world…not some made-up fantasy camp where everything is peachy keen.

Has it ever occurred to you that your “truth” Isnt necessarily the universal truth? Just some food for thought…
