I do not think I have mania, but I took an antidepressant and it pushed me back into psychosis. But at that point I was off antipsychotics.
my diagnosis is schizoaffective btw, I just don’t feel the bipolar element is true for me.
Maybe you have the Sza depressive type. I hear the affective is a tricky one to diagnose.
I didn’t think I had the Sza bipolar then I realized I definitely did after it was under control
Maybe, but im rarely depressed either. I dunno its a difficult thing to diagnose I agree.
I have sza bipolar type but was labeled depressive type for a long time. They put me on an ssri for my OCD and depression and I went manic. They didn’t change my type to bipolar until I had an appointment with my therapist and psychiatrist during a manic episode so they saw it
I’m on latuda and lamictal
I’m diagnosed with sz and MDD. Does that mean I’m sza depressive type? I’ve had anxiety on and off my entire life. The only med that’s helped me with it are benzos but I only take them a couple times a month.
Not really. You can have schizophrenia and depression. Schizoaffective has both of those but it interplays in a unique way.
cool, so its sza when the depression or mania leads to psychosis then?
No that would be a mood disorder with psychosis. With sza you get depression during psychosis and in-between psychosis, or mania etc. The psychotic themes can be more mood congruent and less bizarre overall in sza than sz. You also get psychosis without mood symptoms too. With sz the functioning is lower on average and depression is more episodic with breaks, though you may have negative symptoms of sz too, only a Dr can tell the difference.
Nice. That clears it up. I’ve experienced similar stuff. Unfortunately the clinic I go to doesn’t really seem to give a ■■■■ about changing a diagnosis once its set. I think I was psychosis NOS after my first episode then went to sz after my 2nd a couple years later.
It doesn’t matter a ton. If the meds help then that’s about all they care about . Psychiatry isn’t an exact science
For sure. Its more about mental health problems that I had when I was a child (OCD, possible autism) that kind of got swept under the rug since I was able to get good grades and didn’t cause any problems at school. But I guess that’s just me wanting to find answers for why I eventually got schizophrenia.
I don’t have a diagnosis of bipolar, I do have a diagnosis of anxiety.
My current diagnosis is bipolar disorder.
I’ve carried that label and SZA for years.
Clonazepam is what many doctors prescribe for bipolar anxiety because it has mood stabilizing properties as well
But be careful with it as it’s a benzo
im sza depressive type and have anxiety. lately im on a high dose of an ssri. i still have lots of anxiety and depression but i dont think i get mania, i believe i have before but no one does and i seem to be able to maintain a relatively stable and calm appearance to everyone that knows me
clonazepam used to really help my anxiety but i dont miss that it made me emotionally hysterical and suicidal and possibly damaged my brain from quitting it cold turkey and having PAWS for over a year
Major depression gad insomnia and sza are my predicaments
I was treated for anxiety and depression.
I also had this dx combo, when I was first diagnosed. My current pdoc diagnosed me with sza-depressive type, a few years ago. The important thing I’ve noticed, is having good coping mechanisms and taking the proper medication to help with these.
My anxiety is probably more debilitating than anything. I’m pretty much house-ridden, most days.
