Can sza depressive type

Become sza bipolar type? Last night my mind was racing and I was on top of the world. Now I’m tired and sad. I feel really down about myself and insecure. And I’m still struggling with believing I astral traveled

Bipolar can often be misdiagnosed as depression at first. So I’m assuming yes

You can still have mania with schizoaffective. Schizoaffective means schizophrenia and bipolar combined. That includes mania.

There’s two types of sza. One is depressive type which has no mania. The other is bipolar type that has mania. I was diagnosed with sza depressive type. So I’m wondering if it changed.

Are you currently diagnosed with SZA Depressive type @LilyoftheValley?

You could have been misdiagnosed

Yes. That’s my current diagnosis.

I don’t know, my first thought was possible misdiagnosis as well, but on an internet search I found articles on antidepressants possibly triggering mania in those with depression. Are you on antidepressants by chance?

This is just a shot in the dark and I’m no Pdoc. Just a thought though.

I think you should surround yourself with positive people, to make you more secure.

Thanks @Jake. That’s a good idea. I’ll tell my husband how I’m feeling. Maybe we can chat a while and watch something happy or at least not stressful

Well, just based on what I’m seeing, antidepressants can cause depression to turn into mania/bipolar after use. I don’t know if the same applies for sza depressive type. Maybe potential questions for pdoc.

" Conclusions. In people with unipolar depression, antidepressant treatment is associated with an increased risk of subsequent mania/bipolar disorder . These findings highlight the importance of considering risk factors for mania when treating people with depression."

Yes @Bowens is right on
Are you on a new med? @LilyoftheValley

Antidepressants can trigger mania in depressive patients including SZA depression

If Celexa isn’t new did you recently raise the dose?

Antidepressants can definitely trigger mania.

I personally can’t go on antidepressants

I want to stress that we are all just guessing here and it’s best to take it with a grain of salt and consult pdoc. But maybe the discussion might raise some potential questions for pdoc.

I’ve been on it at the same dose for 8 years. It’s so weird. I’ll be sure to bring this up at my appointment @Wave @Bowens

You may just be misdiagnosed. My previous pdoc treated me for sza depressive type for six years, but the psych nurse I’ve been seeing since December says I’m obviously bipolar type.

Im now on the minimum dose of Prozac and have been titrating way up on my mood stabilizer. Finally I am not racing and bouncing off the walls.

Treating the bipolar has also helped with my psychosis. I am psychotic outside of mood episodes too, but manic cycles definitely make it worse.

It took me many years to get the right diagnosis, but I am significantly improved since my treatment plan changed in March. Coming way down and changing antidepressants made a huge difference, as has high Lamictal.

Previously I had gone manic for extended periods on five different high dose antidepressants. Previous pdocs dismissed me and said it was anxiety, but Denise said it’s very obviously mania.

I would definitely investigate your diagnosis. I’ve been suffering for ten years, until a psychiatric nurse practitioner did what multiple pdocs couldn’t. Good luck

And for the record, I’ve had the astral travel delusion too.

Thank you so much for sharing your story with me @anon39736208. I’ll definitely be very thorough when talking to my pdoc.
