I got SSDI so long ago that I don’t know if the process for getting it is different now. I applied in 1980 and got denied the first time and then got a lawyer and then went in front of a judge and got approved the second time.

Everyone gets denied the first time. Or almost everyone. It took me several years. BUT this gave me backpay which is a large chunk of my savings.

I got approved the first time, mostly, i think, cuz i had psychiatric hospitalizations as an adolescent. I also had really good doctors who wrote good letters. I only got SSI at first but when my dad retired on disability they switched it to SSDI under his disability. I don’t know how that works, tho.

I applied and was on SSDI 3 months later. I never got turned down.

HOWEVER, I have multiple disabilities and illnesses.

I have significant bladder issues, autoimmune white matter brain disease, schizoaffective, and more.

UK here. I got awarded first time when I was 18.. No reassessments since only paper based which mean I didn’t have to attend..

I got awarded PIP on appeal. Had to go court and state my case to a 3 person panel.

My disability allowance started kind of automatically. I filled in a form, it got approved with the psychiatrist report and I had my pension. These days I regret to go a pension when I had the choice. The job opportunities are much higher just being unemployed and not on a disability support pension.
