“Fava beans contain 0.5% L - DOPA (0.07% when dried) [1]. It was Vicia faba from which L - DOPA was first isolated by Guggenheim in 1913, while the discovery of the enzyme DOPA decarboxylase by Holtz in 1938 revealed that L - DOPA is the precursor of dopamine [36].”
I have tried mucuna supplement for a short while. On me personally, it invigorated me, but made me more aggressive in a way, like I was a alpha male or whatever. The big problem however is that taking it can cancel the effect of AP’s, because many ap’s main action is to block dopamine and serotonin, so suddenly you might relapse a little, unless you take a even higher dose of ap’s. You won’t necessarily relapse, but there is a risk.
You could try it, but be aware of what can happen. In any case if you do try it, don’t take it at the same time of day as ap.
How much did you take? Did it make you psychotic or made your positive symptoms worse?
I took one capsule a day. I don’t remember how much was in each capsule, but it was 500mg or less.
I have had mini relapses because of supplements that have worke against the ap’s. I don’t remember if I had any symptoms while taking mucuna though.
Damn dopamine blockade, I think there was a user here who lost his fine motor skills due to APs:
"Unfortunately, when typical antipsychotics are administered, all D2 receptors are blocked, including those in areas of the brain involved in the fine tuning of motor movement (namely, the basal ganglia and cerebellum).
This looks very interesting keep us updated on how it goes for you
Supplement companies put prescription or illegal stuff in weightlifting products. Usually its the ones that actually work lol
Mucuna almost killed me. It raises my iron and blood too much and now I have to have many blood tests.
Don’t mess around with this stuff it is dangerous.
If you already have high dopamine this stuff is dangerous.
I only took a tiny amount and almost died. My temper was very bad.
Don’t mess with this stuff. It’s for certain people with clinically low dopamine, not schizophrenia.
This stuff has killed many people.
How much did you take? My pills are 120mg L-Dopa.
It made you aggressive like Mr_Hope?
A very small amount, the size of a pea.
Take my advice seriously.
If you feel you have low dopamine because of medication mucuna will still do damage in the background.
I was so bored I thought mucuna would raise my dopamine and make me feel good. Sad story is I was still bored from Abilify even after mucuna.
My heart stopped from mucuna. I hated everything and everyone.
Abilify is a terrible drug, causing people to take substances that can kill them.
Be very careful with mucuna.
Thanks for the warning and advice. I will be careful just trying half a pill or a pill per day and will stop if I feel abnormal.
Only take a small amount. The effects can last at least 4 weeks.
Stay safe
L dopa use gives initial highs then the effect is terrible low. Its given to parkinson patients. But all those who took it get worsening symptoms and they need more and more dose and then reach to a point where it stop working. Thus it actually progressed the parkinson faster than if they not took it.
Have you tried L tyrosine? Its a safer alternative as L tyrosine is not a direct precursor of dopamine.
Also if mucuna starts making you itch, then stop it. That’s what happened to me. It caused high hemoglobin (iron) in my blood.
Itching is a sign of high iron in the blood.
Too much iron is toxic and accumulates in the heart and tissue of the body.
Mucuna is known for raising hemoglobin
Abilify works for me
Hey!
I actually take prescribed parkinson’s med that contains levodopa. I strongly advise you not to take it. This must be done at the discretion of your doctor. L-dopa can alter the dopamine level of your brain, and that could be dangerous. Mine contains very small amounts of levodopa and is mainly for relieving spasticity. But levodopa can be VERY dangerous if taken without discretion. I was taking another kind of L-Dopa and I was having psychotic episodes a day after I took it.
I was uder the impression from my readings, excess of dopamine in the wrong areas of the brain were what caused schizophrenia, or at least caused it to propagate itself.
Not so?
How many mg are you taking?
