Depression is back

I had a few months of relative mental peace, but I’m severely depressed again. Can’t concentrate on anything and my dark mood is causing me physical pain in addition to mental pain. I’ve tried several antidepressants since the onset of my illness but none of them have been all that effective; I’m not on any right now. Might have to pull out the ol’ DBT workbook. Should probably see a psych specialist, too; too bad my insurance is screwed up lol.

I’m sorry to hear you’re suffering. Hopefully you can get your insurance sorted and see a doctor soon.

Thank you. I’m just now getting over a really bad respiratory illness (not COVID, possibly the flu) which I suspect may have triggered this depressive episode. There’s also the usual family stuff going on; I’m less able to cope with it right now than usual.

Hopefully I can get things under control before I spiral further.

tw eating disorder stuff

I’m binge eating to cope with my depression, and I really can’t afford to be, physical health-wise. It feels impossible to process all the negativity in my head without that crutch though.

If you are having a lot of physical pain with your depression I would highly recommend Cymbalta as an antidepressant. I have treatment resistant depression, a lot of physical pain and I tend to go manic easily. But I’m taking the max dose of Cymbalta and it’s doing a good job. I’m not sad, I stay out of the bed, I take way less pain meds and have no mania.

Thank you for the suggestion! I’m interested in cymbalta now and will ask a pdoc about it if I can manage to see one.

I hope you can see one soon. It takes awhile to get up to max dose. Another thing that happened when I went to max dose was my crippling anxiety almost went away! I now deal with it seldom. More like a normal person has anxiety. It’s very cool.

That’s awesome! I’m glad it helps you so much.

I feel much better now. Didn’t really do anything to bring about this positive change but I’m grateful for it.
