I now get my omega 3 from fish instead of supplements.
Since you’ve posted this, I was looking for fish that are cheep, and can be found in cans.
Both this fishes (herring and sardines) are quite rich in omega 3 acids, and low in mercury.
Thanks for posting, I was taking omega 3 from gel capsules. Not any more, like you said.
I think that if you can get the Omega-3 through diet then that’s always better. It is true that a lot of the supplement companies have rancid fish oil. Eating fish or seafood isn’t convenient for a lot of people and is very location dependent
The regulations of the supplement industry aren’t great. Pharmaceutical quality is always going to be better and the source does matter.
If there is one supplement that good evidence then it’s probably fish oils.
I take omega 3, when i remember.
But yeah, sardines in oil on toast - its a no brainer, been eating them for years for breakfast. I got 10 cans in the cupboard.
I love sardines on toast with cheese.
Yes, and herring doesn’t taste delicious, but it has more omega 3 of all fishes, and it’s good because it has low mercury…
I bought Nordic Fish oil. It’s expensive, but has no fishy taste or smell. I’ve bought rancid fish oil before. You basically have to resort to expensive reputable brands of fish oil to guarantee they wont be oxidized. But is the price worth it? Probably not.
I live in fish country. They sell big bottles of fish oil at supermarkets here, no problem with being rancid. “Møllers tran” is the brand I use. Don’t know if it can be aquired abroad.
I take a lot of supplements, and I do well.
I took lots of fish oil for a while, but now I’m on Sunflower oil.
I have taken a hefty dose of phenothiazine antipsychotic drug for about 50 years, and I am still getting by without awful side effects.
I take Omega 3 fish oil capsules twice a day every day. Not for my heart or blood pressure but for my arthritis and my mood. It seems to work.
