Hello. I have schizophrenia.i am taking supporting vitamins that I found suggested on the internet and they are doing WONDERS for my life. Especially Glycine.
This topic is about what this site suggests.
It says D-serine. I can’t find d serine I only find L serine. I’d L serine D serine or are they two different things.
The same with the D-alanine the sight suggests.
I can only find beta alanine is the d- alanine the site talking about actually beta alanine or B-Alanine.
Please clarify this for me please and thank you.
Also, if you could, please give me an amazon link or any website link or the medication in question so I can actually see an example of what the site is talking about.
Can someone who knows please apnswer this question! I’m really confused and can not find the medicine they are talking about anywhere accept ass l serine and b alanine. Can anyone with knowledge please enlighten me

@far_cry0
I have used a whole bottle of l theanine and nac I need some more.
What’s the maximum dosage for nac or ltheanine ? How much is to dangerous to take in a day?
Do they help with catatonic states or inability to do things?

I don’t think you can buy D-serine or D-alanine. There’s some concerns about the potential side effects of them in humans for long term use.
there is a concern that d-serine might induce nephrotoxicity in humans, as is the case with rats (143). Evidence indicates that nephrotoxicity is due to d-serine metabolism by DAAO, as rats that lack the enzyme do not develop glycosuria nor polyuria after high doses of d-serine (144).
I used to use beta alanine but I had to stop using beta alanine as it gave me pains in my internal organs.

hi @HelpMeRealizeMyPotential
Be careful with supplements. Discuss your supplements & doses with your doctor. My doctor told me NAC is harmful so I stopped taking it. I take L-Theanine 150mg or 300mg once a day before bed. I have ordered Sarcosine & am waiting for it in the post. My understanding is that these supplements work as an adjunct to anti-psychotics, they are not a replacement for anti-psychotics.
There’s lots of helpful research & information on supplements & dosages on the homepage here, under the heading Vitamins.
So far I’ve found that L-Theanine helps with the negative symptoms of schizophrenia. It effects each person differently so you have to find out how it effects you by trial and error.

I have wondered the same thing.
Take this with a grain of salt because I am not a chemist, but there are two mirror image versions of the molecule that are possible. The L version is the one that is in proteins and that is used by the body.
The D version of serine (D-serine) has been studied in SZ. I don’t think you’re going to be able to find it for purchase as a supplement, it’s not a kind that people can get from diet and I’m not sure it’s safe at least not in the context of people just buying it over the counter and using it without medical supervision.
I don’t think the two are interchangeable, but I did find this on wikipedia:
D-Serine, synthesized in neurons by serine racemase from L-serine (its enantiomer), serves as a neuromodulator by coactivating NMDA receptors, making them able to open if they then also bind glutamate.
I wish I had a better answer but this is the extent of my knowledge.
