I have usually been taking 20+ supplements for many years, but I got to a point where I needed a new strategy.
Is this stuff really helping me? You can always find good cause for just about any supplement according to theory. But in practice?
So then I discovered that zink which in theory is instrumental in wound healing was making my stomach sore worse. That was it. I decided to start all over. Taking about 10 supplements now. It feels better in a sense…more normal than to spend like 5 minutes filling up on supplements each day, now it’s done in a jiffy.
The supplements I’m still taking are
Vitamin C
Vitamin D
Inositol
Magnesium
Calcium (when I’m not drinking milk)
Omega 3
Taurine
Evening primrose oil
Vit K2 (once in a while)
Ubiquinol (every 3rd day)
Folate (once a week)
Mostly basic and uncomplex stuff. But that’s safer. I think this will be my new norm.
You should be getting enough C if your diet is healthy.
D is important in the winter if your days are short and you’re not getting enough sunlight.
Instead of Omega3 just eat more fish?
Ubiquinol, why? Are you on statins?
Folate, I doubt you’re pregnant. In any case you should get enough from dairy as it is enriched.
C is for warding off inflammation in the gut. It does help. It has weak antibiotic like effect at high doses. I take 1 gram daily, but plan to cut back when hopefully the gut problem resolves. Because of the stomach ulcer I am unable to drink citrus juices, etcetera.
D is mainly to help depression. I find that it definitly makes a difference there. I’m not much in the sun, so I take it year round.
Omega 3 is supposed to be good for mental health(especially if you take things like AP’), but maybe not necessary. Will use up the one I bought though.
Strangely I found that ubiquinol helps my sleep, and sleep is very important to me. Taking 100mg every three days seems to be ideal to avoid side effects I found.
Folate is just a experiment to see if it improves gut health as it has a important role in woundhealing in form of tissue regeneration.
Yes, I tried probiotics at least a couple of times since the issue, and I do have a new bottle at hand actually, different type. I guess I will try that again too.
The doc isn’t sure what’s going on. They said they ruled out the typical stomach ulcer, but it is very reactive to food, so it must be in the gastrointestinal tract. Perhaps something with the gallbladder or something else in the duodenum. I’m going on ultrasound, but the appointment is in a month…
I just completely stopped taking over 50 vitamins supplements a day. I’m kind of more relaxed it seems. I can’t wait to see how much money I save if I keep off of them. Also it was the doctors orders because my blood labs were abnormal. And they couldn’t tell if it was from any of the supplements that I was taking.
Zinc makes you nauseous, you got to take it on a full stomach. Also speculation but I think if you have been taking zinc for weeks then it builds up and therefore maybe doesn’t absorb as well and then that what makes you feel nauseous.
You sort of need to approachs 2 supplements one where you only have 1 things on top of your regular prescribed medications. Then the second is a take a full stack of 5 or more plus things.
If you have never taken the supplement on its own then you just don’t know the side effects and it take forever google the side effect for all 10 things your taking. After taking something for a a while you know how you react to it.
I started taking my stuff adhoc these days and it’s fine. Mental I was a bit more zoned in but I’ve also learnt a lot since then and I was always battling one side effect or another.
I swapped to seroquel 100mg tablets and started taking 12.5-25mg but somehow I built up tolerance and then started using 50mg tablets. blood pressure is a bit too low though since seroquel effects alpha 2a but sleep like a brick
