Craving a Drink

Past 3 days - ive had to stop myself getting a drink. The cravings are making me irritable and moody. The only things that helping is that im low on cash till next week.

I going thru 3 litres of lemonade a day at the moment - cos i need a glass in my hand.
I hope to god i dont give in. My livers been playing up lately as well.

Im taking extra Seraqoul to take the edge off - but im obsessed with beer at the moment :frowning:

Ill never forgive myself if i fall off the wagon :frowning:

Do you have any means to distract yourself? Are you a member of a support group? I understand giving up drink is hard. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Stay strong and use what resources you have at your disposal to help you through this. You can dfo this!

Just been looking for an AA meeting online. There is one sunday - so ill go to that. Havent been for ages (parhaps i should have done).

Otherwise - ill just try and keep busy on the computer.

Dont know why its come back with a vengance. Ill get over it.

I reckon if i drank again i would be dead in a year.

You just have to remember the consequences are worse than the benefits.

Sounds like a good plan. Keep up the effort, things will get easier over time, but in the beginning it is difficult. Good luck.

Try this and repeat after me - you might be surprised : “god ,remove my desire to drink.” or go to an AA meeting and talk about it like you life depends on it cause it does

Not sure if it will help to let S. Partnership trust know you’re having this problem.

They must have people to refer you to? It might help, or is at least worth a shot?

@FadeToBlack They would just refer me to CGL (Change Grow Live). But i didnt get on with them before - they made a big song and dance about thier meetings twice a week - but often i was the only bugger there.

Ill try for AA.

Do what ever it takes.

I have dealt with addiction and know how hard it can be to keep away from it.

Difference here unlike hard drugs, there is a pub or off license on every corner.

Keep strong

I am rooting for you @Naarai

Maybe you could download some AA reading material from the internet until you get to a meeting?

Did you try antialcohol meds?

I’ve done just about every drug there is but alcohol has never been a problem for me. I’m a binge drinker when but never got addicted.

Still drink once or twice a month. Sometimes if I’m having a bad day just to take the edge off.

My biggest problem at the moment is Benzo’s. I’m hooked on Valium and I turn into the devil when they wear off.

why do you hate drink so much?

My father was an alcholic, I am drinking 2 or 3 beers ,I really like bon jovi I like the part of this song that says “trying not to do like his dady did” it helps me

Stay in control. Drinking in moderation seems ok but full on every day alcohol abuse will kill you. My best friend died from alcohol and so did my grandad.

I also get alcohol cravings, but probably not as much as you.

If I find myself craving alcohol, I sometimes make a hop tea. Hops are the main ingredient of beer. Hops are alcohol free and have a slight hazey dreamy like effect on my mood. I have to have it cold. It’s a refreshing drink substitute to alcoholic beer but it could help you avoid alcohol.

Thanks for posting @Naarai . Im drinking to much too, this is a good warning for everyone.
Even in sober periods i wake up craving a drink.

When i went to a rehab center, they said i was not drinking enough and with my diagnose (schizotypal) i wouldn’t fit in, and they are probably right about that.

I wish i had a good advice for you besides staying sober. Good luck.

Besides - i drink far less after i switched meds from seroquel to zyprexa. I think one of the mods once posted a paper that said that zyprexa decrease alcohol craving. In my case it does.
