Constipation clozapine

Hello everyone, can you please help me?

I got chronic constipation with clozapine which means i will not poop without strong laxatives.

I tried bisacodyl it worked but chatgpt told me it could cause dependance and loose its effectiveness requiring higher doses of bisacodyl each time it is used for a period of time.

I tried resolor but i am afraid it could affect mental health because it crosses the blood brain barrier and acts as a serotonin agonist

Forlax and glycerin both did not work.

Is there any magic medication for clozapine induced constipation what should i take?

I am currently on invega sustenna 150 and clozapine 650 mg per day.

When i was on clozapine i used Colace (docusate) plus senna every day, but i still only pooped once or twice a week. I just came to accept it. Sorry that’s not much help.

I’ve been taking clozapine for years and haven’t had problems with constipation. The only time I am constipated is when I go a couple days without eating vegetables. Broccoli and cabbage are really good for constipation. Pinto beans work very well also. Chinese food I’ve noticed definitely helps with constipation.

Definitely talk to a doctor about this. Chronic constipation can hurt your health if not treated properly and you don’t want to keep self-prescribing powerful laxatives for this as it will mess up your system in new ways.

According to search engine:

Foods that can help relieve constipation include high-fiber fruits like prunes, apples, and pears, as well as vegetables such as broccoli and spinach. Additionally, whole grains, legumes, and plenty of water are important for promoting regular bowel movements.

No one here is a doctor or qualified to diagnose you. If the doctor you have is not helping perhaps time to get a new one or call a public health line?

I’d try prunes @jga

Or even try Metamucil if you live in the states. I don’t know if they have Metamucil outside the country.

I take MiraLAX every day, one capful of powder mixed into water (17 grams per cap). It works by pulling more water into your intestines, therefore softening stool and making your body have bowel movements more regularly.

I have constipation from my meds too although I take different ones. @jga

I agree with @Loke who mentioned prunes. My doctor told me to try them and they are effective and work well for me. My doctor told me to try them first before trying other things.

You can eat the dried prunes or drink the juice. The dried prunes taste like a raisin to me anyway. I’ve never tried the juice so I can’t speak to the taste of that.
