Confused about ancestry

I have a great grandfather who had light brown skin and coiled curly black hair. However, my dna has only German, French, Norwegian, and Scottish blood ancestry. Is he not really my great grandfather?!?! I’m ok with the ancestry either way, but I’m so curious! Or do these nationalities have dark hair and dark skin??? I’m so curious.

People with those ancestries can have dark hair. I knew people with a French background and they had tanned skin. However, maybe it was just from the sun.

I’m not sure about the Scots or Norwegians, but I do know some Germans and French people can have really dark hair and complexions.

My great grandfather was French-Canadian and he almost looks Italian in a lot of the pictures I’ve seen of him.

Or Grandpa isn’t grandpa…

@Montezuma , yeah, that might be it. It’s just that his hair is tightly curled. But maybe Germans or Frenchmen have hair like that sometimes in addition to a dark complexion

@Twialine yeah, that’s what I’m wondering

Yes. This is true @Kxev . It just so happens I come from a quite racist family and I’ve always used my grandpa as proof we’re not completely white. But, according to my dna, I’m completely Caucasian so I guess either I’m the one who’s wrong or I’m not really biologically related to him. I truly suspect we’re not related. Being racist is so wrong. It’s against the very core of my being. And I’ve always fought against my family about it.

Does nationality directly correlate with ancestry/genes? I am going with @Kxev .

Ancients Greeks were different genetically than contemporary Greeks. That ancient Greek DNA is found in some island country in Mediterranean not so much in Greece.

These ancestry services rely on different datasets. It will take sometime till things are standardized.
