Just looked at my dna results

I’m mostly Germanic, including Germany and the Netherlands, English and Scottish and Norwegian.

It’s interesting because I was raised being told I’m mainly Irish and French.

Even just today my mom couldn’t believe I’m not wearing green for St Patrick’s Day. But I’m not really Irish!!! lol!!!

My mom wished me Happy St Patrick’s Day because I’m 50% Irish. She’s not Irish at all. It’s all on my dad’s side.

Well, you could look at it this way: it just means your DNA isn’t from the people who evolved in that region. You could still have ancestors from Ireland. Those places aren’t that far away, and people don’t just stay in one spot.

If you are descended from England, you are very likely distantly Irish as England conquered Ireland for a long time. So many Irish natives lived among British citizens for a long time. Plus Irish and French descendants sounds more exotic to people really. :joy:

Oooh! I’m exotic!!! lol! But you’re right - even though it’s not really in my dna it’s probably there somewhat in my history @sweetpotatocasserole

My hubby is 100% Irish and his mom is convinced they are descended from Vikings. :woman_shrugging:t2:

I will never get a dna test. I could be 20% German and 80% the lizard men of atlantis for all I know. Don’t really care either way. I don’t see the point.

Like I’m going to change and start eating more saurkraut and bratwurst if I find out I’m more German.

Or eating small children if I found out I’m more lizard man.

Another thing to take in account is those DNA tests are all estimates. It’s not an exact science, and people from Northern Europe have all married across cultures for ages.

Mine tells me that I have English heritage, but my father told me that his family is from Wales so it’s still a mystery to me.

I guess I’ll stick with hangin’ out by the trailers watchin’ the flies hit the zapper. :sunglasses:

Ethnicity testing: Fine at Europe vs Asia level
Less fine at French vs German, Cambodia vs Thailand
Even less fine regions within a country.

23 and me had a data breach. 7 million user accounts data was exposed last october. Might not be a good idea to use it at this point.

I wonder if it was breached to determine people’s ethnic backgrounds for racist purposes. I’ve always wondered if that would happen

I doubt that. It was probably for money. Usually the hacker gets all the data then sells it on hacker forum or just publicly exposes it. Usually sold though.

I know I heard that’s pretty scary stuff.
