Cogentin as prn?

my pdoc told me to take my Cogentin as needed even though the bottle says take it twice a day. I said oh ok. But I forgot to ask as needed for what? I honestly don’t know why they want me taking it, and I’ve asked to stop but they said no. So my question is what is it a PRN for?

prn (pro re nata) means as needed.

my doc told me that cogentin is to help with possible movement disorders (akathisia etc) that result from anti-psychotics or some other meds. I suggest asking the doc what symptoms to be on the look out(akathisia or td). if you start feeling very anxious or can not sit still, you need to contact your doc asap. they might have to adjust your meds or find something else that works.

It’s supposed to be prescribed with certain meds. I think a lot of the older antipsychotics. Prolixin, haldol.

I took cogentin with prolixin. The one time I didn’t take it I got in a car accident within 2 mins of leaving the house.

Prolixin wasn’t the right med for me. But cogentin helped me with its side affects.

oh maybe it’s because I have td
