I gather that it’s a medicine you take when you are experiencing syptoms. What’s a good one?
PRN is an abbreviation for the Latin term, “pro re nata” which loosely translates to “as needed.”
Consult your pdoc for an appropriate PRN.
Risperdone an be used PRN. I use it with my Invega.
I take hydroxyzine on a prn basis. Also lorazepam occasionally.
I take l-theanine prn…is that okay @everhopeful? Does it work that way? Couldn’t find anything online…
I’ve only been on Seroquel and Truxal as prn.
Seroquel (Quetiapine) works great, but is very sedating to me.
Truxal isn’t as effective, but it takes the edge off my reaction to the symptoms I’m having, and calms me down a bit.
My Xanax is a prn. I get one .25 tablet a day.
L-theanine works fine as a PRN. I take it at the same time everyday though. So I don’t use it as a PRN.
Have you tried? Were there issues?
No issues. I just need to take it everyday for anxiety and it also helps my thoughts to be a bit clearer.
I was prescribed hydroxyxine, but I didn’t like how it made me feel. I don’t take anything now, but I have a lot of anxiety.
Per needed, to refer to medications that aren’t scheduled but only taken as needed
Maybe try different doses?
I take gabapentin and Benadryl PRN. Gabapentin for anxiety, Benadryl for sleep.
I just got prescribed Ativan as a PRN. It does nothing. Is this normal? It’s like I haven’t even taken a pill, just no effect at all. I was quite disappointed.
I take Xanax but if I don’t have anxiety they don’t do anything for me.
Do you have anxiety when you take it?
I definitely notice the difference if I have anxiety.
TW: NO MED ADVICE!!!
I’m lucky, even .25mg does something for me!
It’s invividual, for some it’ll take more. Tolerance develops quickly with benzos!
1mg should definitely do something! (not advice, talk to doc)
It kicks in in 10 minutes flat without fail. You’ll be anxiety free for a day…you might even wake up calmer.
I might take .5mg once or twice a week to go to a doctor apptmt or the gym.
I suffer with social anxiety…
1mg is too much for me. I get loopy and careless. With mania, that means transgressing and incurring the wrath of societal and familial correctors.
I call it “solid courage”.
On APs the anxiety will be less because the APs clear that up from the source.
They can also cause it! Aripiprazole and a few others. Then you’ve gotto fall back on anxiolytics with the doc permission.
What dose are you supposed to take?
Talk to doc, watch out, stay safe Lolabean!
I think you may be right. My anxiety is not that bad when I take it. I never get any physical symptoms like racing heartbeat or shallow breathing, nothing that would make me feel like I was going to have a panic attack. Just regular old anxious thoughts. I bet my anxiety isn’t bad enough for it to have an effect.
Seroquel monotherapy has worked well for me. I have no anxiety at all most of the time. I found a first generation antipsychotic in the past increased my anxiety, but my time of taking that is in the distant past now.
Seroquel has an anxiolytic effect for me too.
I use my l theanine on a prn basis. Usually about 2-3 times a week. Works great.
