I racked up $7000 in credit card debt by the time I got out of the group home in 2016-2017. I paid it all off in two years by cashing in my 401k and going to the food bank.

Don’t they ask specifically for credit cards for some things over there. I heard someone been to US said it is mandatory to get SIM cards and stuff like that.

Good job @anon29983254 :+1:

No, a credit card isn’t mandatory in the U.S.

Now, a debit card is more convenient if you want to make online purchases as the money comes directly out of your bank account.

I want to be debt free. Congrats.

My debt keeps building up interest and the interest rate is about 25%. Not possible to pay off.

You could probably benefit from advice like payment plan or consolidation of debt. Im in a different country but we have citizens advice and mental health dept can sometimes use advocates who’ll help setting up a payment schedule and freezing the interest % which helps enormously
Or you can do money transfers to a lower rate of interest

A mental health advocate just rang each of my catalogues and arranged a 0 interest payment plan very affordable

Appreciate the good advice.

I think I need to do something or else my dent will just keep piling up.

No probs

Oh and one more thing you could try is a legal write off of debt without going bankrupt, we have that in the uk. As long as your within certain perimeters of the criteria
The criteria is debt of under 30,000, lived or worked here for past 3 yrs and have assets below 2,000
I just checked for anybody whos interested and its called a debt relief order

Well done Ducky. I’m glad you’ve nearly sorted it out.

I know someone IRL who is on decent earnings and no SZ (or any diagnosis) but has been in debt constantly for years because he sucks at being financially responsible.
There was a period where he owed a huge bunch of our friends a few hundred pounds collectively.
