Change "mental illness" to "brain illness"?

I see what you mean, but “brain illness” makes me think of a brain hemorrhage, brain cancer, or something else like that.

But a different term could be good. I can’t think of an example. But something more “physical” could be a good change.

In a way im for mental illness because mental alludes to the brain but kind of refers to the output of the brain, so there is something sick about what the brain is doing. There is quite a lot mentally wrong with schizophrenia and that unfortunately is how it is diagnosed at how the efficacy of treatment is measured. What i want with the transition to brain illness or disease is something like a test like smoking marijuana. The test comes back positive if you have certain effects from the substance. I have no idea what the substance could be or if it would be safe or cause schizophrenia in some people but that is basically the only test i could think of for it.

I’m ok with mental illness tbh bc if you called it brain illness then you are talking about the physical side of it,

The way i see it is the brain is like a box and its what’s inside the box that is faulty and not the box itself, faulty thinking, personality disorders, psychosis its all part of the inner sanctum of the brain,

Like if it was a computer and it had a problem with the software or operating system, then you would try and fix that and not the hard drive.

Is software our DNA?

I think its more like how we interpret the things we hear and see and how we make sense of the world basically the software is everything we have learned since we have been alive and what we do with it and its all stored in different areas of the brain, our brain reacts differently to different things as well, there is a lot to it though and I’m no expert.

I see what you’re thinking. I personally think of it differently tho in a lot of cases atleast. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the soft ware I think it’s the hardware a lot of the time. So often there are differences in brain structure in people with m.i. and so much of it is inherited. Anyways I’m no expert just sharing my opinion.

You mean like testing the effects of hybrid THC skunk upon the effected (mentally ill) to see if it’s a trigger or cause!,

Good points, also there has very been a solid study to show it’s root cause is a chemical imbalance anyway.

well not that substance, but if when I was 16 years old I was given something like a dopamine supplement and displayed symptoms I could have been treated with a low dose of ap from a young age

Hmm?

Change “Elmo” to “Over Commercialized Red Puppet.”

Yeah!

I maybe change it to Mental Spectrum Disorder.

Insurance in the states would hate that though. Good! Lets piss em off.

Not bad, although you would of thought that the doctors would have already considered this though.

I had a boss doubt me when I said I’m calling in for a mental health day, and they said we all get anxious some days. I gave them ten percent of what I was going through my head and they told me to take all the time I needed. Not really relevant to changing the terminology, but your comment reminded me of that.

It sucks we have to be descriptive with our crap, and legally I didn’t have to. With that being said, I don’t think changing terms would do anything to decrease stigma. If people know mental illness has become brain illness they’ll develop the same associations.

Something has to be done to diagnose before people develop symptoms and become untreatable.

I had a really ■■■■■■ up episode on a skunk brownie.

Yes, I agree but it’s a false narrative of chemicals in the Brain.
It could be environmental, life experiences that have incurred trauma, disassociation, etc, there are as many causes as there are theory’s.

Oh yeah I love thinking about what schizophrenia is, but at bottom I think that if I had been given a decent ap when I was 16 years old when I already had odd effects from smoking marijuana then I could have avoided a lot of sz unpleasantness.

Maybe, or changed your surrounding.
