Can't give up

I had sloppy joes for dinner. I had way too much, looked at myself in the mirror after finishing and was disgusted with myself. I’m short at 5’6 and last time I weighed myself I was 242 pounds (going to weigh myself later. I’m probably 243 or 244 pounds) That’s WAY too heavy for my height.

I’m not quitting Olanzapine, i’ll be on it for life… but I am going to try to lose weight again with dieting (I already have the exercise part down)

You don’t tell a heroin addict to give up if their attempt at stopping was un-successful. You encourage them to keep trying. I’ve tried and failed so many times to lose weight on Olanzapine over the years. I can’t give up. Here goes another attempt.

I plan on drinking more water and much less sugary drinks. More vegtables and fruits, less meat and no junk food.

Anyone have any positive words or advice?

Don’t be too hard on yourself. Most people treat others better than they treat themselves. Have a good evening.

The doctors don’t tell you that these meds turn you into a fat zombie. I’m currently 5’9, 200lbs…technically obese according to my BMI Index Chart.

I weighed 150lbs my whole life before meds. I feel for you, @TheCanuk. We’re all in this together. Just do the best you can. It’s really hard to shed pounds while medicated. :+1:

I’m starting to gain all my weight back since my doctor upped my Depakote dose.
I’m disgusted at myself, it’s almost impossible for me to refrain myself from eating high carb foods.
Today all I had was 4 big bowls of tortellini pasta smothered in tomato sauce.
I’ll be 200 pounds by no time at this point

You can only fail at something that can’t be redone or changed. So just keep trying and don’t think of yourself as a failure. Your journey is unique so whatever pace you set for yourself is fine. Don’t compare yourself to others and keep that determination alive.

Just weighed myself. My weight is 242.7 pounds. Goal is to get down to 170 at the heaviest. Preferably down to 160 would be better.

Switch to diet drinks. They still satisfy your craving for a sweet drink.

You can do the plate method of eating. Each meal have half a plate of non starchy vegetables, a fourth plate of protein and a fourth plate of starches and whole grains. My nutritionist says to have 4 servings of carbs each meal, 15 grams per serving.

Another thing that you can use to lose weight is to plan ahead a weeks worth of meals at a time. Plan every meal and go grocery shopping accordingly. it’s not that hard, you just need a notebook of paper. Then you can plan healthy meals and stick to your plan. You can eat the same things on some days so if you buy a chicken you can have chicken two or three days a week. You can have oatmeal two or three days a week for example and whatever fruit you have on hand. It’s a good way to save money on grocery shopping too.

I try and chug a glass of water ten minutes before I eat. Limits the damage I can do.

Yeah thats smart. Some water can reduce your appetite, so you eat less. Im going to start doing that :+1:

Best of luck. Eating simple meals with good nutrition will keep you satisfied. Junk food is addictive so avoid it as much as you can. You can do it!!

I guess the other thing is don’t try and change everything overnight. That will make you crazy from withdrawal from all of your favourite treats and you’ll dive off the wagon rather than falling off. I started with: no more bags of crisps. Then It was no more chocolate bars. Then it was junk food once a week. Then it was junk food every two weeks. Slowly eliminate one problem item at a time and don’t move onto the next until the withdrawal from the first thing has died down. It’s a slow but sure way to make real change in your eating habits.
