For some reason they cannot see me for my follow up appointment to get more meds until next monday. I only have two days left of my antidepressant, my anxiety meds, and my anti psychotic.
I am unsure how this week will go for me, but I don’t imagine it will go well…
I am honestly scared of not having my meds for a few days, since I don’t feel like they work well to begin with. I still have horrible anxiety and hallucinate almost daily.
You can say it’s an emergency and they will do what they can. The doc can just refill scripts on his computer. Don’t suffer for a week or whatever, that’s crap and not the only option here.
My pharmacy will give me some pills toward the next prescription if it’s a pretty sure thing. Ask them too.
Yeah, supposedly my pharmacy will give me medication on an emergency basis without a prescription.
But what I do when I’m running out of medication and I can’t get any new medication for several days or a week is I will cut my remaining pills in half and take a half a pill a day. It will stretch out my supply for an extra few days and keep at least SOME medication in my system.
I either do that or instead of taking my remaining pills every day I will instead take them every other day. That stretches my supply too.
Word of warning though: some tablets do not have the medication evenly distributed on them so if you cut them in half you are risking getting an uneven amount of medication each time you take them. But you can call your pharmacist or a psych ward or hospital or clinic and asks them if the pills you have, have medication distributed evenly on them and take them accordingly.
Good thinking nick
Better thinking is not to be hooked in the first place.
Make sure the same situation doesn’t happen again by asking for an extra 2 weeks supply to keep in reserve. I have a months reserve supply.
Look up NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) in your town if you are an American and they should be able to give you info on what you can do in an emergency:(…google “NAMI [your town]” and look for “contact us” links on the site.
I hope they can help:(.
I’ve done what nick has done and cut pills in half to make them last so there is at least some meds in my system. I’m out of four of my prescriptions right now three i have refills for. I called my doctor’s nurse about the one i don’t have a refill for and they haven’t called me back yet. Are you going through a clinic or a private doctor? If you are going through a clinic they might have a nurse on staff that can help get in touch with your doctor. I don’t know about private doctors, both times i’ve gone through a private doctor the experience was hell.
