Can you hold conversations with people?

I can talk about work with colleagues, but small talk I find very difficult to deal with

Can talk with my parents, but sometimes I am pretty much mute and they have to work hard to get me to engage

Hoping with the new mental health team that we can work on this

Unsure it will be possible

I can manage small talk if I’m not the one that has to lead the conversation.

I was a Walmart cashier my speaking to strangers had to be on point! I’m not as good as I was but I’m still not horrible

Yesterday or the day before we went to Walmart and I talked to a stranger about making jewelry out of beads and such (I use to do this too but it gets expensive quickly)

She tried talking politics something I try and stay away from and she didn’t seem to understand I didn’t want to talk about it even after I said ā€œI don’t talk politicsā€ and ā€œmy views are different from yours and I don’t want to argueā€

I’m not good at small talk, I’m a deep person and find it a bit boring. Also I’m autistic.

I have gotten better at learning what interests other people have. Like with my bro in law I could always talk about car problems, his cottage or his industrial job. I have a tendency of steering conversations towards things I like so I try to check that more often.

I have really a uncomfortable time talking about politics with most people. I don’t challenge people’s religious beliefs but i feel inclined to challenge their political ones as best as I understand my own.

I try to have conversations with people but they seem to rather not. I like texting better than a phone call and talking while in the car rather than standing in the yard or across the kitchen table.

Maybe.

Depends if the convo is good.
