I just read that canned tuna doesn’t give you omega 3’s. I eat tuna in a pouche I’m assuming it’s the same thing. You have to eat fresh tuna to get the Omega 3’s. I think it still has B vitamins though. It has Iodine. I basically ended my vegetarianism for this I’m not sure it’s worth it.
I’m sure it’s a good source of protein and other nutrients. All that matters is to get the results you’re needing in terms of energy and shaping up. Iodine is good for increasing your metabolism? I think?
There’s lot of protein in canned tuna which was what I used to eat when I was younger for working out.
Yeah the protein is a good point.
There are lots of benefits to eating fish.
Had some tonight.
Tuna, canned or not, still has omega 3.
Water packed is better, the oil packed kind apparently does leach some out into the oil.
You ended your vegetarianism to eat tuna because it has omega 3’s?
The Omega 3’s was one of the reasons yes.
I buy omega 3 fortified tofu and tempeh
I google searched this and didn’t find much.
Does it taste good?
I like tempeh more. Tofo tastes good if you marinade it beforenight
i think i tried tofu once, not sure. a vegetarian recommended it to me. im not currently a vegetarian but i tried it for a couple of months. If u want omega’s u can try fish oil pills as well. there are some that are better than others but its up to you.
I believe the FDA has some recommendations regarding eating tuna only 1 time per week. It has mercury in it apparently. I guess the FDA thinks a little mercury is safer than more mercury. I personally think any mercury is bad. But I do still eat tuna as a treat so there’s that.
I had a hard time giving up my vegeterainism. i made it 4 years before i stopped. it just seemed i didn’t have the support to be vegan or vegetarian, everybody in my family eats meat. anyways the fish is a good source of protein. i think lack of protein was a factor in my psychotic episode. I’m much more stable now that I’m eating more protein, but its still just fish. don’t expect a miracle, but it can be a healthy step imo
also if you want to go back to vegetarianism there are some plant based omega 3 sources like flaxseed oil and i think hempseed oil, as well as walnuts. it’s a little complicated, i guess the better your digestion of plant based foods is the more omega 3 you get from the flaxseed.
you could pick up a flaxseed oil from any health food store or gnc probably
