Yes and no. I drive the largest sedan sold in North America and I support energy from coal (using modern clean tech). That being said, I’m opposed to conspicuous consumption, I freecycle electronics and I buy used whenever possible. I avoid excess packaging and I purchase what I can from bulk stores. I do what I can when it makes sense, but I don’t do stupid things where the math doesn’t add up (e.g. wind power) so I can virtue signal to others. I want real savings and real reduction in waste.
But why do our plastic use and trash go to sea? Like arent they recycled ?
Not sure. They have landfills for waste that they burn and put in the ground that turns into methane gas. Maybe litter or inefficiently?
They charge for plastic bags and banned plastic straws in California. We use paper straws now…
apperently you can get cancer from the noize of a turbine, i said your more likely to get cancer from someones pants
I’d have had a small wind turbine on my flat if i could and solar panels but the wind isnt strong enough where i am and its too complicated, all the neighbours would need to agree and i know they wouldnt.
We had charges for plastic bags for a long time
I heard something that poland put their trash in the sea, dont know if its true. Ös
Östersjön is very polluted
Yes I am. I don’t drive and I only take one or two baths a week. I rarely do laundry or go anywhere.
I went out to lunch with some friends today. The restaurant provided cardboard straws in stead of plastic straws for the beverages. About halfway through lunch my cardboard straw started separating a couple of inches down from the top. All I could get was air through the straw since the iced tea level was below the broken section of straw.
That’s funny!!!
I’ve heard like in NY that they’re getting rid of straws.
My son worked at a recycling plant sorting. He says the majority of the stuff was garbage. Mostly it was juice boxes, bottles, jugs and some tin. If it wasn’t cleaned it went to trash. Then people would put in batteries or cleaners. The plant burned down because of that.
I recycle stuff as much as possible. Also I don’t throw the used battery into the rubbish bin. However we keep a car .
Now we have schools encouraging parents to give their kids metal straws that are reusable. I figure that won’t last too long – one of the little darlings will figure out how useful they are if you sharpen one end.
Does this count? I have not gotten many man-made implants, so I’m still mostly biodegradable.
CA has made plastic straws illegal.
Actually, at least in the county where I live in CA, restaurants can’t provide a plastic straw or even offer you a plastic straw. However, the customer may request a plastic straw and the restaurant can then give you one.
Thanks for the clarification! I heard that was illegal. My bad.
I used my environmentally friendly reusable bamboo straw for the first time yesterday.
Unfortunately I used a plastic cup but I plan on buying a reusable juice cup.
I have a reusable take away coffee cup I keep in my handbag so that I don’t have to use plastic paper take away cups and that way be more environmentally friendly.
I try to recycle but am living with family so I use what they have but they seem to recycle.
I do not eat meat.
I heard the best thing you can do for the environment is go vegan.i am not a vegan .yet.im a vegetarian.
I try to buy environmentally friendly things and to stop buying polyester and only buy natural fibre but I mainly buy clothes from second hand shops because I can’t afford new but that’s better for the environment anyway.
I think I’m going to vote for the greens.
I am trying to be a better consumer in my opinion.
I do drive my car and am afraid to take public transport.
I had psychosis where I spent all day at a train station just watching my trains go by.
People talking to me and me unable to answer.
I rather drive my car but am trying to do things for the environment.
I try not to drive daily to save money and environment.
I use material bags for grocery shopping.
I bought my brother and his wife reusable take away coffee mugs because they used to get take away mugs all the time and keep throwing them.
I bought my sister and her husband a bamboo straw each.
Great to keep in the handbag and pull out when needed.
I try to be environmentally friendly and to improve myself.
I am not fanatic but I care and I want us all as individuals to do our best and do what we can do.
It doesn’t have to be expensive.
I got my material shopping bags for free from a company advertising on the bags.
Just bring them when you do your grocery shopping and voila they will not have to use plastic bags.
I bought a decent espresso maker so I don’t have to drive to a restaurant and pay $5.00 for $0.30 worth of beverage. Oh, and there’s no paper cup with plastic lid to toss after, either.
Now that’s sustainable.
