I don’t think the two are connected in occurence. They both involve structural abnormalities in the brain and progressive deterioration though. At least they used to say sz involved progressive cognitive decline. The most popular model anticipates a chronic course for the illness. Alzheimers is fatal, so you suffer for less years than sz. Other forms of dementia may not be fatal.

I’m the caregiver of my grandmother and I see that there are many similarities: the negative symptoms, the cognitive deficits, the delusions, sometimes there are hallucinations, the loss of gray matter.
