Are we doomed for Dementia

I just seen a news story on Dementia, mostly about lack of reasoning, unable to look after themselves, running around in the cold with no jacket or walking around naked. Not able to cook, not able to look after themselves, sounds scary, but because we have Schizophrenia ar we doomed for Dementia??

How many things do you do now that would be considered Dementia???

I am currently not able to look after myself.
I hope to get better.

I think Mania and Dementia often cross paths, could be considered the same at times

Dementia is quite separate to schizophrenia, so we’re not doomed to dementia, no.

No we’re not more likely to get it.

Mountainman try not to spread panic. many people in this forum have enough to worry about already,
even without your “help”

Ther are many seniors on the forum, hardly think a discussion on Dementia is going to turn the forum into panic, and I will not be silenced on the subject of mental illness

I hardly want to silence anybody.
Well then, a cure for dementia is in order.

@Erez_Shmerling you shouldn’t always be so critical of others. I have had the same concern as @Mountainman. I have the concern that I’ll get dimentia from my medications. I’ve also worried that I’ll get heart disease.

I am sorry for you johnny5.
I already wrote that a cure for dementia is in order.
If you are worried about heart health, first, exercise.
Second, try to think/find out whether the medication harms your heart.
If so consider switching medications or lowering dose.
I hope my advice is helpful,
Best wishes,
Erez.

When I first got examined by doctors in my teens they said they saw no evidence of psychosis. I eventually developed psychosis, now doctors tell me they see no Evidence of dementia, I sometimes feel like dementia is next. I don’t think these doctors really have a clue about what they are talking about.

John Nash had dementia? I think there are other people in this forum who are old and don’t have dementia.

And a person who doesn’t take his/her meds are more likely to shrink the brain than those who take.

I don’t know which is worse losing your mind and knowing it or having lost your mind but have no idea whats going on…

that’s easy. Worse when no awareness what’s happening.(to flameoftherhine)

dammit man put @ then the name lol… like this @Erez_Shmerling this way the other person gets a little notification when you respond to them… I often think not knowing would be easier but it may be a grass is always greener kinda thing… they both are hell but for different reasons…

I’m really concerned about developing Dementia because both my Mom and her Sister have Dementia.
From what I understand there’s a Genetic component to it.

Well, they considered schizophrenia an early form of dementia a long time ago. That has since been corrected. I’m worried about diabetes and heart problems from being overweight and from the medications. My diet sucks.

I as diagnosed with dementia praecox when I was in my twenties. The term schizophrenia has replaced that term. So, to me, they are the same thing.
