chordy I don’t agree, but its true that schizophrenia is very difficult( I know first hand)
I don’t see a lot of intelligence on this forum. When you go to bipolar or depression forums everyone is like 10x more together than everyone on here. I’m surprised many of the people on here are even able to participate, they only do the bare minimum, nothing more.
Well, there’s that guy who plays guitar and do some videos about schizophrenia. He seems to be very intelligent. He’s natural in the videos. I think it’s a type of intelligence. Elyn Saks seems to be very intelligent. Some guys here are fun. It’s a type of intelligence.
I was able to learn code after my relapse (I ddon’t even like code too much). I think I’m intelligent.
Well according to this article
The risk is about double that of normies. More great statistics for schizophrenics.
I have been on many general mental health forums, that have included a range of psychiatric illnesses, in my time.
The intelligence on display here is on a par with most of the other forums I have been on.
Some very intelligent people post here.
Have to agree with @firemonkey
I have forgotten to put on my shoes three times this school year and had to stop at Walmart to buy a pair of shoes each time so that I wasn’t wearing slippers to work. One of these days maybe I won’t even notice and I’ll be wearing slippers at work.
My dad has dementia. I forget many things already… I assume dementia is in my future.
I’m doing the same at times, on two occasions I grabbed my keys, put on my hat and headed out the door only to find out I was not dressed, funny to look back on but scary I could even do that. It comes and goes but I see it as things to come more often
Yes! The first time I did it I started crying because I thought “that’s it. Here we go…” The second and third time I was still worried, but decided to put shoes in my car just in case. So, I guess I’ll just try to accommodate.
I used to play Sudoku every day. I should start up again…
I think we have many intelligent posters… have you not seen the condition of facebook and twitter lol… at least most of us can spell or at least use spellcheck and form complete thoughts… there are whole youtube channels dedicated to idiotic posts on both of those internet trash heaps… and they have enough content for an oh my sz amount of channels to release content daily… I see no shortage of smarts here…we may be insane and write about crazy subjects but comparatively we seem to be doing pretty good on intelligence…
That’s interesting. I’ve formed exactly the opposite opinion. I see a lot of intelligence on this forum.
I saw not “togetherness” nor “participation” in that definition…
some people come here to chill anyways, not to have intellectual discussions. so studying this forum is an inaccurate method to measure our intelligence…
this forum is better than any bipolar forum that I’ve seen. people with bipolar are crazier, scarier, and more egotistical than people with sz.
Dementia is degenerative and schizophrenia is shown to have a positive trend in recovery over time… not degenerative outside of relapse states…
beyond that though… yeah some schizophrenics might bare a stronger genetic potential to develop dementia just like anyone else… both at the same time don’t sound like fun at all.
However I’d think a recovered schizo and all the mental tricks they’ve learned throughout their recovery might fare a better chance at keeping themselves glued together and beign watchful over the state of their own mind…
however again, it might be to late in the game for a worn out old schizo to really give a ■■■■ anymore and let their brain finally win out and just fall to pieces…
There is no dementia on either side of my family. However, in light of the studies that have been done, I guess I am at higher risk for it. I suppose I will enjoy not having it while I can. Having delusional disorder the rest of my life doesn’t sound very appealing but I will take it over having dementia.
I’m 55. I’m demented but I don’t have dementia.
@Mountainman I think that lifestyle also affects dementia.
Try doing brain excercises like reading crosswords stuff like that.
Also try to physically exercise as it also lowers your risk.
I helped my mom take care of my father the last 2 years of his life, spending many hours with him…he died of Dementia in 2013.
Until you live with it daily, you have no clue.
I wonder I might go down the same road too, and if I do, well, I guess I do.
My dad was a lawyer who handled up to 65 cases at once. He passed the Bar exam first try… He is/was highly intelligent, but has dementia now and can’t remember what he did a half hour ago.
Dementia has nothing to do with intelligence. Both the genius and the idiot are susceptible. It just may not be as striking amongst the idiot group.
