Currently, I’ve been taking a new drug Austedo for TD(mouth quivering and tongue movements). It doesn’t appear to work. I’ve only been on it for two weeks. I took Cogentin for two years and it didn’t work either. Anyone else found a medication that works for TD?
I was just told I have it. Tongue movement and right thumb movement. I’m not on any meds for it right now. We are waiting to see if it gets worse. They told me they only treat id it bothers me, which it doesn’t.
I have mild tardive dyskinesia. I take cogentin which helps some. It doesn’t really bother me that much. I only really notice it when I’m trying to sleep.
At my visit a couple of weeks ago, my doctor said mine was severe. She didn’t see it when it was really bad, though. I have tried the maximum dose of Ingrezza, but that didn’t work, so I’m back on Austedo. Right now, I’m at 15 mg. Only been on it for two weeks since getting off the Ingrezza.
Mine was bad but worse in my left hand. I took congentin but it didn’t help. I finally got taken off haldol and it got remarkably better
Have you tried Clozapine?
Dont expect TD meds to work if you’re on APs; they block similar dopamine receptors like them.
I had mild td from my meds but a decrease in meds and some Cogentin seemed to stop it. I’m currently not even taking the Cogentin and not having any movements.
Mine is worse in my left hand, too. It’s weird because you’d think it would be worse in my dominant hand. The plus side to that is that it’s not as difficult to hold things as it would be if it were my dominant hand.
If I ever get the smallest sign of TD I’m probably gonna try to immediately come off the med causing it. I’m already facing a similar ambivalence with akathisia. I just wish they could make a frikkin antipsychotic medicine that worked without neuroleptic side effects.
I am surprised that those drugs don’t work they worked in the trials weird but those are the last hope …
We tried to get me off Saphris and onto clozapine, but it turns out I can’t take clozapine. So I had to be put back on Saphris. Without it, I’m a wreck.
Don’t you have to take monthly blood tests with clozapine? Also, are there any other common side effects?
Saphris has a high probability for TD.
Any chance of turning to a new med ?

Yes, when I was on it.
It took away my Parkinsonism/TD, whatever it was.
I may have to get on a new med regardless as my insurance doesn’t want to cover Saphris. Any recommendations (that hopefully don’t cause much weight gain)?
I always recommend Latuda (minimal weight gain)
Abilify or Invega maybe ?
I can use both hands but I usually write with the left. And i told my old doctor this but my eyes would sometimes rapidly dart back and forth on their own
What dosage of AP(s) are you on @cbbrown ? It might be too high.
TD causes fast eye blinking, not left-right darting of the eyes.
I was on haldol and like 9 different meds after getting off of most of the meds it stopped never figured it out. Old doctor didn’t care
