Anyone tried macuna (L dopa)?

Whats your experience taking it? Does it improve working memory? Increases or decreases OCD? Does it causes insomnia luke other dopamine boosting drugs like adderall, modafinil etc? Does it reduces blunted or flat effect?

Thanks

It’s more for parkinsons support

Yes but OCD, ADHD, negative symptoms also linked to low dopamine so wonder if it work for these too.

I took l dopa for a while but my aggression came back so I stopped taking it. I might consider trying it again now that I have my own place. I currently have L-tyrosine on hand which I try to take once each morning. L-tyrosine is a precursor to dopamine, adrenaline, and norepinephrine. I find it makes me more alert and wakes me up.

Of course it will come back. Antipsychotics blocks dopamine in the brain while L-Dopa raises it. So L-Dopa can worsen schizophrenia or even cause it in very large doses. L-Dopa is pure dopamine which is worse than all drugs like cocaine, heroin, etc. It should be illegal to sell pure dopamine like that its dangerous to self-medicate. L-Dopa is only prescribed for Parkinson.

Low dopamine in specific brain locations in negative symptoms is just a theory but it was invalid for me. I was prescribed Wellbutrin, increases dopamine in all the brain, it made me worse. I slept all day. My psychiatrist told me its very difficult to develop a pill that blocks certain receptors in certain brain locations while stimulating other receptors in other brain regions. Its very very complex he said.

There is a theory about muscarinic receptor agonist Xanomeline which showed great results in treating negative and cognitive symptoms.
It will be in Phase 3 end of this year🙂

Is L dopa gives effects similar to L tyrosine or N acetyl L tryrosine?

For me N acetyl l tyrosine increases sudden aggression, anger etc and effect comes after several hrs and can last for few days.

L-tyrosine is a precursor to dopamine so yeah it can increase anger and aggression. And yes L dopa will cause aggression in some people.

Consider testing thyroid level too as thyroid hormones are also used for creating dopamine. Thyroxine get converted to tyrosine.

I have low thyroid and uses levothyroxine pill daily to stabilize thyroid hormone levels. A very low TSH value is preferred ideally less than 1.0.

I found zinc also increases rage. It helps in converting thyroid hormone to active thyroid hormone T3. So I think the rage is basically from better thyroid function. The best part unlike stimulant based dopamine drugs is that tyrosine, zinc etc not causes insomnia.

“L dopa”, it should have been my nickname in high school Spanish class. After three years of Spanish I still couldn’t put two sentences together and have them make sense. Learning a foreign language is hard!

I just thrown away my mucuna because it was making me too aggressive and slightly psychotic . But it definitely lifted my mood. Colours were more vibrant and my outlook on the world was beautiful. My body temperature was through the roof and my hemoglobin levels were raised to toxic levels so I had to stop though. I found this out from a blood test. I also felt extremely cold from it. It’s something to be taken seriously. Be careful.

I took N Acetyl L tryrosine and got similar effect. Improves mood, interest but also increases anger, I was planning to buy macuna but stopped after seeing effects from tyrosine itself.

It carries a warning on bottle.

NOTE: If you have a medical condition (especially bipolar, high blood pressure, or a history of malignant melanoma), are pregnant, lactating, trying to conceive, under the age of 18, or taking medications (especially MAO inhibitors), consult your qualified healthcare professional before using this product.

May be the effects might be due to bipolar issues as it helps to turn depression to hypomania and that might be contributing to aggression.

Best part of tyrosine is it improves confidence as it reduces fear, may be the anger part helping in to reduce social anxiety. But need to control our self really hard especially when dealing with people as quick anger bursts can occur.
